Car won't go in reverse ?
i just got my 94 civic a few months ago ... it runs real nice except for every so often ..it wont go in reverse ...
i did some seaches and found out that if i come to a stop .. and go into reverse ... theres a stop point so the grears stop spinning .. a wait a while and still it doesnt go into reverse...
around the or fourth try it goes .. (its a manual stock transmission )
anyone know whats wrong ?
thanks

my sister 95 ex(d16) used to do this. there is a trick, put the shifter into 1st, 2nd, then reverse. i bet anything it'll work. if not then you have bigger problems.
no i dont think the clutch is shot ... because sometime it goes into reverse perfectly ... and other times it wont ...
and every so often, its rare its only happened 3 times ... it feels rough going into 1st and second and sometimes it doesnt go .. i usually have to put it in neautral and then back in to first and its fine

Agreed, 'cept use 4th, it'll go in easier and slow the shaft faster.
It's because there's no syncros in reverse - there's nothing wrong with your car.

I'm tryin to say this w/o being a dick to philsofy b/c I know he knows what he's talking about but I Have an easier way :-P.
Just put the car in 4th gear, then it'll go into reverse real easy - promise.
Only reason I say that instead of 1st, 2nd, R, is because 4th, R is easier, it'll slide into 4th easier (obviously) and R is right next door >.<.
Try it Philosofy, I'm tellin ya it works :-P - I dunno, maybe it's just me, but it's easier than 1st, 2nd, R, just lsap it into 4th, then right into reverse.
BTW: HERE'S ANOTHER WAY
Yeah, I'm serious here....Aight, here's what ya do, put it in reverse until it "stops." THen keep pulling down with light pressure and release the clutch slowly, when the clutch is about half way up - before any gears start to grind, before you pop the clutch, before any of that, the stick'll slide right into reverse - I **** you not. I don't know why it does it and I don't care to find out...it's by far the best way IMO - better than the first way I stated. In my personal opinion it's better than th eway philosofy stated also.. If you dont' believe me try it...when your car won't go into reverse just pull LIGHT pressure towards reverse (stick shouldn't go anywhere) - don't force it down in there so the gears grind...just as u would shift, lightly....and then pull the clutch out (SLOWLY!) - it'll slide right into reverse, you're right next to the clutch grab point, give it some gas, and go for it....backwards...
Definately serious, try it, both of you, hella lot easier.
