02 civic si
Alright guys first I just want to say hello I am new to the board and just bought my first honda. I don't know alot about hondas but want to learn. I just bought a 02 civic hatchback si, I bought it from a guy who said it was all stock but it wasn't and I knew that. I don't think he had any idea what he had, he was the second owner and only had it for about 9 months.
It has aftermarket lights in it i am guessing they are Hight intensity, they are adjustable with 4 different positions from a switch inside the car. Cost?
It is lowered with Mugen Showa struts. Anyone have any info on these struts. Cost?
I think it has a set of Rota slipstreams on it but an not sure. How can I tell what kinda of rims they are?
Other then that I don't see much else. I need to get it on a rack and go through it.
Are their any mods that people recomend starting off with that arn't to costly and not to involved.

Uh oh. It sounds like you bought the car I got rid of when I bought my 2006 Accord.
My car was black and had the HFP nose and wing.
It had <u>German</u> CTR HID with the adjuster in the cabin, custom installed by Ocelaris (one of the few people ever to be able to get these into the US). The JDM lights are easier to get. It's important for USDM drivers to have the German HID because of the beam's basic setup for driver on our side of the road. I loved those lights.
They were great and I miss them.
The car had the carbon fibre interior option.
It did have 16x7 +45 Rota slips with Pirelli P Zero Nero tyres.
The suspension will have both the Showa and Mugen names on it.
DC5 ITR rear swaybar. Red "H" front and rear, and it did not say "Si" on it.
That was a nice little car. If you've got it, take care of it!

Is that what the lights look like? That is Ocelaris's black EP3. My car did not have the blinkers on the mirrors. He offered, but I thought it was overkill with the blinkers already being on the front wings.
The rear wiper was off the car for a while and I honestly cannot remember if we put it back on when we got rid of the car or not.

Yup, he is. My car was the first one to get the German CTR HID and he had never installed them before. He spent the better part of a day on a garage floor waaaay out in the country in Virginia putting them in for me.

I think this might be your car. It has showa and mugen on the suspension, type r cluster, the adjustable lights, no turn signals in the mirrors, it's black on black on black, with rota slip's perelli p zero nero's, carbon fiber interior, aftermarket wing on the back. It has a white sticker on the gas filler door.
If it is the same car, can you tell me anything about the suspension?
Can you tell me how many miles where on the car when you sold it.
The type r cluster says 26, 000.
I bought it from a Korean guy he didn't know much about the car, but he may have just been playing dumb.

A lot more than that! It was my daily commuter from new in Dec 2002 until buying the Accord in Dec 2005. I'm gonna guess 60,000.
Don't fret too much. It was maintained better than the book said. I might have your second set of keys, still, I think.
Such a weird little car. I really do miss it.
That EP3 served as a spare instructor car at ITR Expo 3, by the way.

LOL...
I really do still have the spare set of keys. Two keys and transmitter, never used, and including the original dealer parking tags.
Also have the manual and original window sticker.
SHHEP33532U309930 <--Is that the number of your car?
I got the UK CTR instrument cluster because I always intended to do a K20A(*) conversion to it and I was working on putting it together when everybody started buying Accords over here.
The K20A(*) ended up in my DC2 ITR track car.

Small world, it is the same car. Same vin. My roomate told me that he gave you some coilover sleves off his rsx for this car a long time ago.
So do you think I could get that set of extra keys and fobs and manual?

These puppies do have a lot of character. Not likely we will live long enough to see one cross the blocks at Pebble Beach, but as the herd thins out, the humble EP3 will gain a certain niche among Honda gearheads.

Yes, of course you can.
I don't remember what we did with the RSX coilovers. They were on the car for a short while but we switched to the Mugen shocks very soon after that.

It's a neat little car. Since it was produced with the K motor mechanicals in the first place, it benefits from all the recent racing research that is being done.
You can even do you high HP K conversion economically if you want, since you don't really need to switch to the six speed unless you really want.
The main thing you have to remember is how short the stroke is on the front struts. It's a mistake to lower the car more than what the Mugen SS do, IMHO.

I look forward to having some fun with this car. This is the first honda I have ever owned. I am glad to hear it only has around 60k on it, I was a bit worried, even though it feels really tight, interior wasn't worn bad, and didn't drive like it had a bunch of miles on it.
If you PM me your address, I'll mail that stuff to you. I doubt you're ever as far south as Culpeper.
I work in Pr William much of the time, if you're not averse to meeting up there.

so whats the deal with the vtech on this motor I don't really feel it ingage. So one told me that it is just very smooth on that engine. I am guessing that if it was having a vtech problem it would most likley throw a code.

The K20A3 has i-VTEC. It has high lobes on only one cam. The computer will vary the spark advance and cam advance in order to take advantage of the kind of fuel you are using, and to give better power in higher gears and lower RPM than was heretofore possible.
The K20A3 USDM also has a single stage manifold, so you don't hear any secondaries open. Much of the time, what people think of as the VTEC surge is really the secondary intake manifolds opening up.

sorry, to be an ***, but its just a pet peeve of mine, Could you please spell VTEC without an H please. Just open your hood and it will say i-VTEC not i-VTECH. Thanks bud!

no ****, I didn't know that. So would a k20a2/z1 manifold be an improvement on the k20a3 and would you hear the VTEC crossover a little better?

It's a great feeling to find out that one of the cars that you have owned is stil on the road.
I have owned a lot of cars and I have run into the new owns a few times on the street. It's a small world we alll live in now.

Ya, it is a small world. If you want to sell those HID's, let me know. I do remember seeing the owner before you in Fairfax, and I told George I had seen his car on Rt. 50 once. As for the Mugen suspension, I sold them to him in October of 2004.

No, don't do that.
Changing an EP3 intake manifold should be one of the last things you'd be doing when making improvements to the motor.
In fact, you'll find people doing the opposite, switching to the EP3 USDM manifold because they no longer have to deal with the dual stage runners. The K20Z3 manifold is also popular for the same reason.

The "VTEC crossover" isn't what you're used to. If there's a crossover, it's at 2200 rpm when the exhaust cam opens up the other four valves. It runs as a 12-valve motor below 2200, mainly for economy & emissions; it runs all 16 valves above 2200.
Don't let that disappoint you, though. You'll find, for example, that the market for adjustable cam gears on K-series i-VTEC cars is virtually nonexistent. As George said, the ECU constantly adjusts the timing & overlap of the cams depending on rpm, throttle position, and engine load. The torque curve is almost as flat as a tabletop; mine varies only maybe 5 ft-lbs between 2000 rpm and redline. Therefore, there is no need for aftermarket adjustable cam gears -- it's all in the computer.
Jasonindaskyz, take car of that car, man. George knows his ****, so that's one of the better EP's that ever appeared on the used car market.
