car: 96 civic dx (STOCK)

symptoms: car starts with hesitation and idles rough. it had a cel 71 and 72 (cylinder 1 and 2 misfire).

so i check the plugs, distributor, coolant was a little low (i went ahead and topped it off) but oil level and condition was good also (not milky).

i then reset the ecu to see if it will still throw a misfire code. start it up it only slightly hesitates for a second or two then idles and drives fine. no more missing/hesitation and no cel. basically it only hesitates on start-up

what can cause the car to hesitate on start-up but then drive fine?

i noticed when its warm outside like today..it stumbles when trying to start. (as if there wasnt enough fuel) i would have to give it a little gas to help it start.

im going out to get a fuel filter, new spark plugs and wires (cap and rotor look fairly new) and see how that goes

 

swapped out the spark plugs and fuel filter..started up fine but the symptoms are usually when it has sit for a little bit..so im taking a break and seeing if it'll start right up later.

i noticed the valve lash must be off because they are ticking louder that i think is normal, can this be another possible cause for rough starting?
