Wiring dilemma
I have a b16 swap going into my 89 crx si. It has the si engine harness on it but on the driver side i have a round connector coming out of my firewall but the only corresponding plug i have on my engine is a square plug. i cant find any other place for it to go. Ive looked at other harnesses and they all seem to be this way. could sombody help me out and tell me where they go. do they have to be cut and have a new connector wired on? thanks
i will try to get some pics tonight. No it isnt the green connector that is for the resistor box. it is a six pin square connector though. the connectoer coming from the car is a round 9 pin i beleive. Im not sure what year it came from all i know is that it came from a running b16 swapped crx when i bought it.
well thats part of the problem you should always use the harness that came in your car not another one, unless it is same year and model, you will probably need to repin the connctor or swap over to your stock harness
So here's the deal:
Your car's wiring harness is for an 89-91 SI.
Your engine harness is from an 88 SI.
Look at the wires on either side of the connector: are they the same? They should be, just repin them to match their colors on the other plug and get a round plug to pin them into.
To the OP: If you don't get some pics, this is gonna become a confusing thread

Alright this is what i have.
89 si harness (round plug coming from firewall)
8 wires as follows
yellow/black tracer
yellow
light blue/ yellow tracer
blue/yellow tracer
blue/yellow dots
black/yellow tracer
red/blue tracer
brown/black tracer
88 si injector harness square 6 plug connector
6 wires as follows
yellow
brown
red
light blue
blue/yellow tracer
yellow/black tracer
i can line up 6 of the wires but what do i do with the extra two wires that i have? i hvae a blk/ylw and blue/yellow wires left over from my 89 harness with the round plug. what am i supposed to do with this?

I'll go check it out on my wiring tommorow, I've got an 88.

Im stumped man, I went and checked on my old harness from my 89DX and it has different colors then your 89.
So the 2 wires you cant hook up are as follows:
They're comin through the firewall to the 12pin connector.
They are: Black wire w/ yellow stripe, and blue with yellow stripe?
So your prob is that there's only 6 going in from the harness to the FW plug?

Ihate to sound like a broken record but you will save yourself a lot of this hassle if you just swap your 89 si harness to the motor then if you need anything from the harness on your B16 cut it off and use it

x2 you'll save alot of time that way.....you dont even need anything off the B16 harness but the vtec/vtecop/knock sensor etc, which aint **** and you gotta do it anyway.
An 88 or 89-91 harness will both plug up to the b16 the same

didnt read the whole thread, so this might have been answered already...
you have an 88 engine harness...either buy a new harness(waste of money) or find yourself a corresponding 8 pin connector and wire in the two extra wires for the FITV

Yea, I started thinkin bout it like "wait a minute, he has a 89 too, why are they different colors?" and started readin again like oh, he has a SI, I had a DX, big difference

my problem is that i dont have my old 89 harness anymore i mistakenly sold it with the multiport swap before i realized i needed it. im trying to find an 89 harness but im not having any luck.

If it doesn't, he'll come to your house himself and fix it!
