Engine rotates but wont start after replacing the same distributor, please help
Hello everybody
I was suppose to replace the hole distributor in my Civic coupe 2000 EX but Im missing one part for the new distributor, now that put the same old distributor that was working fine before the engine rotates but wont start, can you please please help me. I was installing a new one cause a sensor inside but the distributor is fine and was working. does it have anything to do with the timing?
Thanks in advance

Shouldnt have mest with the timing unless you manual turn the crank when the dizzy was out. Check your spark plug wires make sure they are correct.
when I removed the distrutor I didnt turn on the engine or moved anything until I put the same distributor back the same way it was before then it didint start anymore do you think it will be a problem now that I start the engine a few times? checked the wires and everything seems to be ok
it looks like its sparking but when I turn on the key it makes the noise of starting but it wont turn on. I removed the distributor again, re-chek the wires and everything is fine.
If you tested for spark then you would know for sure If you're not getting any spark then you might have the same problem as me. I had a bad sensor in my dizzy, swapped dizzys and it didnt work so we put the one that did work back on and it didnt start [ended up breaking the teeth off of the old dizzy, never heard or seen that before].
I wasnt getting any spark so we tried switchin ecus and now I have spark [with the new dizzy] but still wont start so I m thinkin we messed up the timing some how. Had my car towed into the shop today and will find out tomorrow whats wrong. I will let you know if you think it will help.

first you need to check to see if you have spark. but 9/10 its your ingnitor. You can check your coil also for maybe signs of burned marks on the coil itself. or you can pull out the dvom and check the resistence on each end of the terminal should be I think around 400 ohms.
well the engine light came on so I check the codes and it end it up it was the CYP sensor which is inside the distributor so I had to change the distributor cause no onse sells just the CYP sensor but everything else was working fine the car was starting normally and everything, please let me know what was wrong with your car tomorrow at the shop.
thanks for the help
thanks for the help
ok it was the timing
if you took off your working dizzy and tried to put it back on and your car didnt start then its probably your timing
and to fix that cyp sensor, I would try to find a different ecu first, thats all I should have done but didnt know

So im probably will have to take it to the mecanic for the timing, How much did that cost?
Really dont know what to tell you about price... I work for a dealer so I got a discount. Once they fix the timing [if thats why it wont start] then you still have to take care of that cyp sensor which either means new dizzy or ecu. For me it was the ecu. Good luck.
thanks man I have the new distributor and just order a new ignition rotor so if that doesnt work then I will have to take it to the dealer or something. great help thanks again
Question did you turn the engine while the distributor was out thats why the timing moved?

NO. When we put the original dizzy back in, we somehow didnt put it in right and after trying to start it back up it ended up crammin the intake cam and it jumped time. Thats how the timing got messed up.
