bike stalls please help
Hey I have a 2001 Yamaha yzf600r (non-fuel injected, carbs) and last week i changed my spark plugs on it. It started up and ran like a champ, I didnt ride it tho, just idled and it idled fine, then I went on vacation for a week. When I got back i got ready for a ride so i started it up and right off the bat it didnt sound right, so I figured whatever its prolly cold i'll let it warm up so I pulled the choke up and let it warm up at 3k for a min, then I got on it and pulled the choke back and it stalled on me. I was like ok.... lets try it again, tried to start it and it kept on stalling the secong after i start it. IT runs when I have the choke on, but the moment I pull the choke it dies out. Sputters slower and slower and dies. What to do? I tried pushing and twisting on spark plug wires to make sure its connected, i played with idle control adjuster a lil bit too but nothing.. it just stalls on me period. Any ideas?

how's the charge on the battery?
how's the charge on the battery?
low battery would cause it to stall? Cuz i mean it starts and works fine with choke all the way but once i let the choke down 50% it starts sputtering and with choke all the way off it stalls.
I double checked the plugs again.... they are new, fine, screwed in and connected. I even put some silicone cream in the plug wires to ensure 100% water proof connection.
Any other suggestions?
if it is a battery how can i make sure that it is in fact the battery?

i'm not sure how it relates to the battery, but when my battery was low and the bike would start, it'd run real rough. The bike would stall out if i rolled the throttle in neutral (with or without the carb on) but if the battery is charged there'd be no issue. with the bad battery i would jumpstart the bike with jumpers, and it'd run fine while connected, but once i removed the cables, it'd get all stall-ish again.
have a trickle charger on you? i'd get one, they're pretty useful. it'll tell you if the batt's drained and charge it at the same time.

I wouldn't do that. You can go up to Sears to get a charger.

how much do those cahrges go for?
The reason i was planning on hooking up jump cables from a car was to find out wether or not it was a battery problem. You said u wouldn't do it...why? Can i use a regular jump box instead before i go buying things?

Hook it up to your car it's perfectly safe and free unless you just want to go get a charger. Just make sure your car isn't running because it will give it too much power. But it is perfectly fine to hook cables up to a car. I do it all the time.
also I had this problem with my ninja, what you are looking for is that while the bike is running off the car battery it runs fine. Once you pull the cables off though if it starts running like crap then you know its time for a new battery. I'd suggest you use this method over a battery charger because it is easier to see if its the batterys fault.
I went to a bike shop today and told them about my problem they said if your bike starts and runs fine on full choke then its very unlikely that its my battery. I told them what esle could it be considering the fact that it was sitting for a week baking under a sun and rain whole week ( under cover tho) but before that it run perfectly fine. They said it could be fuel problem, or water in gas or carbs.... In any case I'll try to run it off car's battery tomorrow and see if its going to stall. If it will then we'll know its not the battery.
OK so i hooked up jumper cables to the battery and started it up, it did the same exact thing. Idles fine with choke 100% moment i pull the choke back up it sputters and dies out.
So i unscrewed the tank, drained the fuel, went to gas station and got 2 galons of fresh gas with some sea foam to clean it up a bit, started it up.... same thing, died right out. So whats left? ITs not the battery, its not bad gas or moisture in tank, spark plugs are new i changed them before i left the bike sitting for a week, air filter is new..... whats left?

unlikely considering that it ran fine before, and only after i changed plugs and let it sat for a week it started acting up. Jets dont usually clog up in a week do they?
how can i check if the fuel pump is not pumping.... cuz bike shop said if it works with choke, and choke is getting fuel from "somewhere else" i might want to check my fuel delivery system... any thoughts on this?
Sorry can't really help you out...im new to bikes/carbs also.
don't know if you've gone here, but they may know more to help out http://www.yzf600r.com/phpBB2/
good luck
ps how long are you leaving it idling on the choke? usually on my bike i full choke and let it idle 3k for about 30 secs...then i back the choke off till it idles 2k and i let it idle while i get my gear on. i hop on and start riding and choke is full off now. so all in all, about 5-8/9 mins warming up at 2k.
Edit, didn't see above poster has a cbr.
