So while pulling the seats in my teg I discovered what looks like a factory alarm under the drivers seat ....
Surely not too useable but there is a handy little harness plugged up to it.
Been meaning to get an alarm on the car for awhile but livin in MO its not a real big deal ... but I should get one on just incase I leave it somewhere thats higher crime someday ...
Interested to know what car alarms I should be considering .... somethin simple should be fine ... preferably ~$100 or less and install myself ... keyless entry would be sweet but not required ...
Mainly just don't want some POS waste of money, or something that goes off every time the wind blows ... but would like to know if someone is F'n with the car ...

The alarm under the seat is an "oem" dealer installed alarm, it is made by Alpine, the wiring harness is a set of "T" harnesses, and should be removed, not realy usable with aftermarket alarm.
Good alarms are any of the DEI alarms, Viper, Clifford, Python, Avital and so on... http://www.directed.com/ or Compustar... http://www.compustar.com/
Audiovox also makes a pretty good one for the money, "Prestige" line... http://www.audiovox.com/webapp...e.jsp
Keep in mind an alarm is only as good as the install, no matter how good the alarm is if not properly installed you will have problems including "falsing"

Where can I get it with a warranty?
Should I really worry about a warranty? Is it common for a unit to take a ****? Would the warranty be voided by installing it myself anyway?

Well if you go through wrx-killer its a different story. You should do it yourself if you feel comfortable doing it. That way you spend the money and get alarm with the features that you want and you get the experience as well. It is a win-win. I'm pretty sure everyone here will be willing to help guide you if you decide to install it.
