why do you want to rice out your shifter and make it even harder to hit fifth gear from a comfortable seating position than it already is?

I did it on my old one, feels much better and less like a UPS truck.

Yeah... umm how is that rice? Also, how is it harder to get it into 5th, you do realise that the top of the **** would actually be CLOSER right?

I'm running the BC short shifter unit for an EP3 Hatch.
It is shorter throw, and comes with a 2" extention. I have since removed the extention, and like it better. I personally don't like short shifters I like the shifter as close to the wheel as possible. IF you are using a conventional rod shifted tranny. Look into the Fastline Performance Shifter:
The closer it is to the wheel the faster you can get to it and select another gear. Thats the thinking behind it. After driving mine for a few day, I love it and am contemplating buying a fastline for my beater.

So Bart, is it a total bitch to get the center console out with that thing or what?

It's easy to do...
First you need to get 2 dies for the threads, a coarse one and a fine one, you will also need a plastic bag, tape, oil, and a hacksaw.
Begin by pushing the bag over the shifter, so it punches through, and then tape it around the base of the shifter. This will keep metal pieces and oil off the boot and the car.
You need to look up or test what size die to use, I forget what it was, but I remember I found how to do the whole thing through a friend on his accord forum (all honda shifters are the same threading). Remove the **** and spin the coarser die down the existing threads. The coarser one will cut the unthreaded metal easier.
Get a little oil on there to lube it up, and start turning, backing off every once in a while to clear the cuts, and of course re-oiling.
You will be able to get about 2 inches or so before it gets REALLY difficult, due to the increased diameter of the shifter. Take the die off and then go over it with the finer one, so now you will have uniform threads all the way up.
Leave the die on the bottom of the threads and cut off as much as you want. It's important to leave the die there so it will clean up the threads after you cut.
Spin the die off, clean up, and install the ****.

it makes no sense having the shifter that close to the steering wheel for daily driving unless u only drive with both hands on the wheel

No just put it in 2-4-6-R and it pops right out around it. I still need to fab my trim panel for it though.

I don't daily drive the car, but I do always drive with both hands at 10 and 2 for optimum control. It took some getting used to, but it is definitly the way you should grip the wheel for a reason. Try it for awhile you'll like it.

Barts got the right idea actually, might not look the best, but for downshifting or if your car actually makes enough power that 2 hands on the wheel AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE makes the car easier to handle ( I know my 312whp scoots me around on the road) then its a good thing
I personally cut my stock shifter ealier this season and hated how low it was, I actually went back to stock with a 3" extension when I put my tranny in, its just so much more comforatable

Way to back it up. Again, how is it rice?
What if I use a hacksaw and die set that's made in Japan? Would that make it JDM and not rice (cause there IS a difference)?

Yeah, its "gay" to cut your shifter to make it more comfortable... WTF is wrong with some of you guys? I am starting to wonder..... All of the sudden EVERYONE wants stock honda OEM wheels, stock cd players, and now cutting a shifter is rice? screw that idea. Do what YOU think looks good and dont listen to people that say "that is gay" gosh, what a GREAT comeback.
Oh and yes, use JDM tools, way cooler.. JDM, USDM, makes NO difference. The only hting better about JDM is the engines IMO.
