Default A tale of paintwork

Dont get in here much but this could be interesting.

Just had the nose repainted as some dozy tart reversed accross it. For a while now the paint on my 98 CW has been a bit tired. The rear and one quarter panel has been repainted but apart from that and the nose its stock. The hood is flat and the wings are almost eggshell in finish. It does look clean but doesn't really shine as it once did. I have done a ton of research on waxes. I nearly purchased the Swissol kit then the Zymol kit and so on. However a guy on another forum is offering to 'do the job'. 8hrs work for $200 more or less. So before you waste your hard earned money on things let me see what happens to mine. I will watch him sweat and tell you how it goes. I will get before and after pics as best I can but obviously the best judge will be me not a camera.

Right now I have my doubts but I prepared to watch someone work for 8 hrs to prove me wrong, watch this space. I am told that another customer of his was lookign to sell the car and had him polish it. After seeing the results she kept the car.

Sounds to me like your paint needs to be polished to remove oxidation (dead paint). I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the results.

$200 for a detail job on a car the size of the Integra is going rate, basically.

Hit it with some rubbing compound or polishing compound. An orbital buffer would be nice if you want to avoid elbow tendonitis

I think $200 fot 8 hrs is pretty good. He is bringing the clay bar, chemical strip and whatever amount of waxes and sealers that are needed.

I hope you're right, what with the recent press about the ITR over here a decent looking one should sell easy

He is bringing an orbital buffer so I understand. I am going to get as much out of it as I can.

Sample of work before ....

I don't trust myself with a buffer and old that crap. Ill probably end up burning my paint or something like that. Ill just stick to washing and waxing. Thanks

I'd ask around and take it to a reputable detail shop. for about 200 bucks you get a full exterior and interior detal and the car looks brand new, they go as far as taking a brush to get the dust from between all the switches in the consol and everything.

My Father is a profesional detailer. He has been for 30 years. He has been working at the same auto body collision shop for those 30 years. He used to do side jobs on the weekends years ago but he does not anymore. I asked him the other day if he would do side jobs again and he said perhaps and I know he would charge less than $200 bucks.

It took 10 hrs to clean the car up. The results are pretty good but we had a small issue on one of the pillars when the orbital ate the paint Overall it still looks pretty great and its just one of those things. If I had protected the car better in the forst place then it wouldn't have been as oxidised. Knowing what I know now thats never happening again!

$200 seems decently fair. I detail around by me, and charge $100.00 for a full detail, inteior/exterior.

For $175.00 I really give the paint a nice refreshing. I do everything by hand though, don't really trust the orbital for the reason mentioned above. If anyone is in NJ and wants their car to look brand spankin' new, PM me.

Actually, in my book, "ate the paint" = paying me for the repair of the damage that was done. If you're going to be detailing someone's car, you should be proficient enough with the products and tools of the trade to ensure that the results will be satisfactory and you will not cause any damage to the finish.

Listen. I asked him to come and do the car. The paint was horrible and 99% of it is now fantastic. He didn't charge me but I paid him enough to cover his expenses, that's how I am.

I will have to spend prolly the same as it would have cost to get the pillars blown in, then at the end the car will be as good as it its going to get. Seriously some of you need to learn what a real issue in life is, a mark on your car is nothing to worry about in the scheme of things lol.
