Default alternator problem, need help

alternator won't charge. don't know if it's wiring or bad alternator, bought the car like that. previous owner don't know becasue he has the car parked for 1 year. has anybody here took their itr to autozone of advance auto for an alternator test. just wondering how they test and what they use. does anyone here knows the alternator troobleshooting procedures. i do have a multimeter but don't know the procedure. if anyone can help that will be great.

only way to personally check the alternator yourself is crank the car up and put your mulimeter on the posi and neg of the battery....... if its charging you will be getting ~14.5 volts with the car running

now if you take it off and take it to autozone they have a machine that spins them and can tell if they are good or bad by the same methods

edit: if you get no reading over 12V with the car running start by checking the alternator fuse...... its under the hood..... one of those big screw in fuses
