Default Shed some light on valve springs to use or inter change

Hello HT peeps! I have 01 itr cams,skunk2 retainers but just confused on the valve springs . I read a magazine that says (I should install the appropriate type r intake valve springs on the exhaust side of the b16 head) is this statement true? why not the type r exhaust valve springs for the itr exhaust cam on a b16 head?.

Another Qusetion is , is it true that the regular b16 intake valve springs can run with the type r cams because they are stiffer than the type r intake valve springs? because the type r valves are lighter than the b16 valves?.

I will eventually raise my redline as high as a stock type-r or 200rpm higher in the near future..Sorry for the long post, basically i just someone to tell me what the right combination to use for my set-up for my b16a2

my parts
01 itr cams
skunk2 retainers
using stock valves from my b16a2

thanks in advance!
Sione

I would recommend Type-R valve springs with Type-R cams. B16 valve springs are not up to the task in the long run. Type-R intake springs on intake side, Type-R exhaust springs on exhaust side. Some people are using Portflow inner springs with Type-R outer springs and that setup seems to work o.k. as well.

So it is okay to run type -r springs with the heavier b16 valves, interesting .. Oh thats prolly why peeps use the port flow inner to compensate

thanks b19cpoupe!

any other set ups?

Do not buy Type R exhaust valve springs. The stock b16 head has inner and outer springs on the intake side and only one set on the exhaust side. When you do the swap, toss your stock exhaust valve springs. Take the stock inner and outer intake springs and MOVE THEM to the exhaust side. Then install ITR inner and outer intake springs on the intake side. This is the same as a Type R setup. You already own a set of Type R exhaust valve springs... they're on your intake valves right now.

If you're doing it yourself, be sure and buy the tool from Snap-On.
