install cap.. can it go bad?
tried to put a cap in my friend grand prix... it reads zero volts before i hook it to the amp.. then it doesnt ready anything at all when connected to amp.. and amp is not powereing on..
power is fine.. ground was fine... amp worked before we tried to put in the cap.
cap is a tsunami 1.2 farad. can they go bad?
hooked up everything correctly and it wont read the voltage.. with car on or off..? do they need to be charge? how do u charge them?

So your saying the amp doesn't work now?
Yes caps can and do go bad but I doubt this is your problem.
The cap needs to be connected in parallel with the amp. You connect this as close as possible to the amplifier.
As soon as you connect the cap to 12V its instantly charged.

i have it wired up .. theres no fuse bettween cap and amp.. only battery to cap/amp...
i have installed them beofre with no problem... but im stumped..
he had Sound of tristate do the amp install.. (had monsoon system) if that matters and there ground was shitty.. didnt scrap the paint.. and just screw it to car..
so we scrapped the paint and bolted it down.. but my test light showed no power.. ill try a diff ground today

If you didn't charge the cap with a resistor/light bulb, you probably blew the fuse when you installed it. That would explain why you have no power.

if it the glass tube style fuse"agu" it can blow and you would never know it . check to see if you have power coming from the battery line. If you don't change the fuse.

anl fuse...
im gonna check the gound..
then hook the amp back up without the cap to see what happens..
finally hook up the cap.. if the amp works and the cap dont.. ill just exchange it and see what happens...
remost wire doest have to be attached to cap right? .. nver did that before..

Some caps have a remote wire to the cap. This needs to be hooked up it's what turns the cap on.
You dont need to "charge" a cap. They suggest you charge a cap to prevent arcing.
Please speak in english so we dont have to guess what your trying to say.
If the amplifier is not working with the cap installed then it sounds like you have something hooked up wrong or the amp is toast.
Let me Guess you have the power and ground of the amp connected to the cap. Then the cap power and ground connected to the cars power and ground. If the cap has a remote wire the amp might not get power unless the cap "turns on"
I dont know that specific cap though.

As has been mentioned if you do not read voltage on the power cable at the amp even if cap is installed and defective the fuse is blown or there is a connection problem, a bad cap will not keep the amp from working, you, [honda95civic say you have installed caps before, how did you wire it?
Installing a cap should be done this way....
Remove fuse on power cable, connect power cable to caps pos.(+) terminal, connect caps pos.(+) terminal to amps pos.(+) terminal, using as short a lead as possible, again using as short a lead as possible ground cap, [neg.(-) terminal of cap] to the same place amp is grounded, use resistor or 12V light bulb to charge cap, [install in-line where fuse goes, if using a light bulb, when first connected bulb will be on bright, as cap charges bulb will dim till it's out, remove bulb and install fuse.
If you want to test cap, [simple test] connect everything charge cap make sure system is working, open a door so dome light is on, disconnect the batt. pos.(+) terminal, dome light should slowly dim out, if it goes out as soon as you disconnect the batt. the cap is bad or miswired.

Don't know never played with a cap that has a digital readout. Never understood the purpose of the read out other then bling factor.
I assumed they turned the cap off because all caps leak. If left connected with the car off will drain the battery over time.

maybe over a very long time, it is a load.
