Default What sounds like valve clatter at specific rpms?

I know I need a valve adjustment it sounds like a turbo diesel at idle.. but this problem has been getting worse and worse recently.. when the engine revs to 3.3-3.8k rpms it will sound like bb's are clinging around inside. it doesnt sound good at all it.
it will only happen during these rpms and no noticable difference in power. it will stop as fast as it started.. anyone know what this could be?

edit: i forgot to mention it will not do it when the engine is cold but once it starts to warm up even a little bit, it does it.

That's rod knock my friend. While it is mild like this you can just replace the rod bearings and call it good.

are you sure? maybe i can get a video/sound clip up.. the best way to describe the noise is bb's + coffee can + paint mixer it sounds like its comming from the head, i listened to it with the hood open.. but who knows really where its ocmming from.. oh and my #3 cylinder spark plug is wearing down unusually faster than the others, if that has anything to do with it.

it could be your heat sheilds or exhaust. it happens to lots of 3rd gen. integras. same thing happened to me, then came time for a new motor and the noise was still their. motor was shipped from a good company so it wasnt the engine.

i dont think it is the heat sheild it is clearly comming from inside the engine, and like i said it happens exactly at these rpms no variations it happens like clockwork everytime

I have the same problem. I did a swap recently and the motor and tranny were clean but I still get that weird noise.

That sounds like detonation to me. Mine did it to, right in the same revs yours is, and after cleaning the engine internaly it went away immediately.
Run a can of BG44K through it. Best fuel/carbon cleaner on the market.

The heat shield on the cat tends to make the same noise at the same rpm range.

heat sheild on the cat eh? i have a pinging noise that sounds to me like its coming from near my timing belt... but it might be the heat shield or something... it also started after i drove 400miles straight with only a 15min break...
