Shifter Kart gets owned
Well yeah a shifter Kart is way heavier, much slower accelerating, and slower to turn... Kart never had a chance. Serpent are pretty much the 1/8th scale gas powered racing standard.
Would have been fun to see a 1/4 scale car run against a shifter-kart though...

yeah those little RC cars are fast. I'd like to see what would happen at a bigger track where there are longer straights. The RC car would top out at a much lower speed than the kart, then the kart could run it over and win the race
Either way the guy driving the kart was driving, and the guy "driving" the RC car was standing there playing with a toy. I'd take the slower kart any day.

cant drive a RC car!
Getting done racing a RC car for the first time:
"whew that was fun!"
Getting done racing a shifter for the first time:
"*shaking* oh...my...god...."
and yea the car is WAY more sophisticated than the kart haha

The track was too large for the RC car to begin with, it was getting out of radio range which was why it was going all over the place and making u-turns at the end of the runs (auto-return system). Serpents are toys just like karts are toys, in fact it's a more high tech and sophisticated toy than any kart. 80mph in 2 seconds is not too bad for a 1/8 scale toy...

It didn't appear that the absolute cornering speeds were that different, but the acceleration that RC had was absolutely insane!
The kart was driving a nice line most of the time, while the RC appeared to just be trying to keep it on the pavement. It didn't matter with the edge in acceleration the RC had.
I'd still rather play with the kart...

If its so sophisticated why was it out of range? 0-80 in 2 seconds and out of range in 5 seconds....

As mentioned, its typical cirquits are smaller. Also(at least in this country) FCC determines what amount of power/range the radios are limited to for surface borne radio controlled frequencies.
Serpents(1/8th scale gas) are the top of the heap of R/C cars, the F1 of R/C if you will. Does that mean its unworthy and to be deemed a toy because you cant drive in it? Perhaps, perhaps not.
Consider this though. I was in France for the electric On road Worlds a few years back. When Asked why I was there I would respond sheepishly, for the radio controlled world championships. The response I got was surprising and fairly consistent. "ah, so you are a race car driver". This response was generally reported by many of the other american teams when they went abroad for their world championships in Scandinavia, Japan, the middle east, South Africa, Australia. Indeed, to them, any form of racing equates being a racecar driver, from R/C cars to karts, to F1. Its all revered.
When the Worlds were held in Las Vegas..."oh, you mean like the radio shack toys?".
It was an interesting microcosm of the state of racing in the US and abroad.
