O-rings: When are they necessary for sleeves?
I am having my B18B block sleeved by GE and I was wondering if I should get it O-ringed. I plan on running high boost, say 20+ pounds, and 350-400 HP. I'm not too sure exactly what the O-rings do for the top of the sleeves?
Any advice? Anybody have O-ringed sleeves?
Thanks.

personally i have o-rings and a stepped deck on my GE sleeved B18
overkill FTW

O-RING FOR SURE
if you need extra copper wire, GE has that too!!
we are using them on our 800 + hp racecar with no problems.

oring is good, but a lil overkill for your goals imo
my last head was oringed but the rings were SS and it was a bitch- had to run a copper HG i hated it, but im sure copper orings are 1000% better cause you can use an OEM gasket....
and yes I installed the copper HG correctly, they just suck as far as water-sealing

I agree with what is stated above.O rings are very good but i think its overkill for 90% of the people on this board.I believe that if you are planning on running 600hp plus then you should look into it?Thats just my .02

my local machine shop that is working on my block is acutally doing my orings at the current moment. I was reccomended by endyn to do it for my goals of 750whp with my 85mm. The reason was for some extra bite!!!!! In my opinion, i wouldnt reccomend you to o ring your block if u are not going way over on bore size.

Was thinking the same thing...
I run the GE O-Rings and the only downfall is having to replace them every time you pull the head.
I too think its really only needed it you are over 83mm and 400HP.

Well i just got my block back from my local machine shop and snaped a few pics for you guys to show you how my machinest did my orings. Here are some specs for you guys if you need some #'s .042" dead soft copper wire. The groove have been machined to a depth of .0324.
