A Day at Pueblo Motorsports Park - Type R and EVO
It feels great to be back on track - spent the day with the R getting to know the track and it performed flawlessly. It has been about 9 months since I have been able to get on track and the car didn't miss a beat - I had nearly forgotten what a joy this car is around the circuit. It is so agile and communicative and willing.
I had a bit of a moment going through 6A and 6B. had jsut passed a slower car and missed the apex a bit and ended up with 2 wheels off and real loose in the back. Was able to save it, but forced me to remember to never lose concentration.
Had some understeer in some of the slower corners that I hope to get dialed out next session. For those in the area you must visit this track - loads of fun, some tricky corners and great people.
My friend brough out is EVO IX MR. I took it for about 6 laps and here are my impressions. I loved the way the thing got up out of corners, once it got going it was amazing but the lag was pissing me off.. I hated the seating position with a passion, it felt like I was perched on the car. The brakes were AWFUL - the stopped well enough I guess, but the pedal was rock hard and offered absolutely no feedback - they inspired zero confidence.
Great day.

sounds like you had a blast
seems as though in many of the evo threads in here, i'm seeing a trend in the brake feel. To me, it seems like those big and beefy calipers would make a huge difference. It's great getting so much feedback about the evo though, because as R owners get older and need something sporty and reliable, this is a direction some are heading

You're absolutely correct on the turbo lag. What most guys fail to see is when they see a 300whp no. they don't see the turbo lag that comes with it. Not unless there are technological improvements which I'm not aware of, but a bigger turbo means more lag. The best combination to me to negate turbo lag would be a big displacement motor and a twin turbo which would mean a Porsche which I cannot afford. An ITR with a high comp(complimented with compatible cams) engine is perfect for me at this stage in my life.

that car shouldnt have much turbo lag if the revs are up! its a small turbo and it spools quick, especially in higher RPMs. granted its not as responsive a an all motor setup on an ITR, but it shouldnt lag much if at all.
and yes the brakes take some getting used to compared to the ITR brakes. Im curious to get some new pads on our MR and feel the difference.

EVO owners = New Type R thread!
Seems like more and more ITR owners are buying EVO's and more of them are creeping in here. Well what can you do? Honda needs to step up to the plate!

No way I'm selling my R for an EVO.
It was just a friends...

what i have read is that a turbo back exhaust, reflash, and intake will dramatically help with that lag
on a side note, i was at AMS a few weeks ago and that place is crazy. there were about 20-25 evo's just sitting outside

I think it's easy to say pads but what about tires?
When I do pads I will also be ready to slap on some R compounds. I will be using Cobalt pads, most likely the GT sports for daily and the new Spec VR's for more spirited use
But I have a strong feeling that even just the addition of stickier rubber will assist the braking ability. I think the brake issue is a cross between us being able to "feel" and modulate the brakes well with the R and also a drastic weight difference as well the EVO has Electronic Brake Distribution which is supposed to help in braking but might actually numb the braking feedback.
BUT Awesome that you're on track again. I know I can't wait to get out there and have some more fun. The more I think about it the more I think I'll do a DE at Limerock this fall for ***** and giggles.
