Default Yes.. ? for GSR head on B16 Block

Alright. I've done the searching and have been reading for an hour. I've read arguments, Some Pros and Cons. BUT... This was all from 02-03.

Just wanna know if anyone recently has done this..

First off. I have a Stock B16 block & a stock GSR head layin around. I wanna mate them together.

Please. List Pros and Cons. I dont need this thread to turn into a which head flows better argument.

1. Just wanna know if it'll run good or even equal to a Stock B16.

I'd be using the stock GSR IM so no question about that.

2. Which ECU is best for this setup. I've heard some issues with the butterflys and each different ECU? so Which ECU is best.

3. Confirming that I must use a B16 timing belt and B16 head bolts.

4. If you or anyone knows anyone who had it, How's it run????

5. Dont hate, just participate. LOL..

Thanks all..

1. You wont run into any problems, just ditch the GSR manifold for something with a single stage set up and your good.

2. Depends on the intake manifold you use. But if you run the GSR manifold the GSR ecu will be fine.

3. For the timing belt use whatever you want as long as you use the same water pump. Example: GSR timing belt and GSR water pump

4. Dont know anyone but itll run the same as B16 but i think a little less (?) compression

5. Haters are squares.

gsr heads are higher compression. just try to get another intake manifold...ditch the butterflies and secondarys

-As someone else stated, you will net a higher compression ratio because of the square combustion chambers on the head. Which in my book is a plus.
-The GSR head doesn't flow as well as a B16 head, but I doubt you will notice unless you are really building the motor.
-A few people have commented on removing the GSR intake manifold, I say you don't. I was let in on by a respectable builder, racer, tuner friend of mine that the GSR manifold is one of the best for a N/A application ...... notice how long the runners are on it . I would recommend taking the butterflies out though as they will cause some sort of restriction.
-The timing belt would have to be a B16 timing belt because the B16A block is shorter than that of any B18 block.
-I would recommend that you run either a chipped P28, stock P30, or if you can get your hands on one, a stock P61 (B17 GSR ECU). I probably wouldn't go for the stock P72 ECU because they are designed to work with the butterflies (which you won't be using ).
-I say you should do it and throw some ITR cams in there and you should have a pretty good running B16

So all in all...

Let me get this straight..

1. Remove the butterflys and run a B16 ECU for best conditions?

2. If I use the B16 block, I need to know for sure which timing belt to use. Say if I use the GSR or B16 water pump.

Thanks..

Stick with a B16 waterpump to be safe, but you have to use a B16 timing belt because of the block being shorter.

remove that whole section, but you will have to find some smaller bolts to bolt the two side together.
