My friend's car makes this very loud *clak* *clak* *clak* ( sounds like metal) right near the tranny. Every time he revs in neutral, the noise comes ( no noise at idle). But when the clutch is depressed and he revs the engine, no noise what-so-ever. I believe it's either a crank or clutch problem. Any ideas and suggestions?

Oh yea, it's got a Center Force stage 3 clutch installed about 7K miles ago.

 

Input shaft bearing! The only way to change it is to strip down the tranny. Big job, $25 part.

 

You'll probably need a new clutch since it will have oil on it. Clak Clak... I guess that is the sound of a very ill tranny.

 

I'd try a throw out bearing first.. sounds like a might be on that one... It's the bearing on the input shaft that makes the clutch work or not.
