i have a 93 del sol si (d16z6 sohc vtec). when i bought the car, it started heating up on my way home. next morning i changed the thermo (auto zone cheapie, low temp) and flushed the old coolant replacing it with prestone 50/50. it didnt over heat so i thought problem solved. i took a trip about 45 min away, and the car heated up again. i then replaced the radiator with a fluidne dual core aluminum radiator (rigged rad fan so its on at all times, fan spining in correct direction). i took the same trip, and no over heating. i thought the problem was solved. 1 week later, car started overheating again on a much shorter 20 min drive. when i came to my destination, i heard the coolant boiling. when i got home i checked the coolant and oil. it was not mixing nor was i loosing coolant. i went ahead and bought an oem water pump, timing and accesory bolts, head gasket and all reccomended gaskets and seals for this maintance. i havent yet got to installing any of it, but car has started heating up more severly, during the night time on short trips at that. once again no coolant has been lossed or mixed with the oil. my guess is the water pump just completley stopped turning. i checked the belts, all seemed well and tightened. before i do the head gasket and water pump, could it be anything else? are there any sensors that would cause this to happen? hopefully its just a bad waterpump and maybe warped head. if my block was cracked what could i check for? i need the info, i was sold a lemon from a member on h-t. thanks for any help.
