Rubber thing torn attached to brake.
Where the bar is attached to the brakes, there is this rubber thing that is torn on one side and all the grease that was in it is all over my rim and around that area. Before it ripped, it slipped off and I had to reapply grease to the inside and then buy that metal clip with the screw that tightens it then reattach it (metal clip must have came off somehow or was never there because it has been clicking for a while?). After this, it stopped clicking when turning. Then now that it ripped, it is starting to click again. Why would it rip on me? Would I need to replace just this rubber thing or the whole bar thing? (or axles as i was told) What would you recommend? It is only on one side. Want to use as less money as possible to fix this.
Im guessing that you are talking about the CV boot. does the axle go through the "rubber thing"?
and is the "rubber thing" ribbed?
if thats the case, your best bet is to get a cheap replacement axle from a pep boys or autozone or somwhere...
there are slip on replacement boots, but they dont work very well.
