Default Can someone explain to me about LSVtec?

I hope to purchase this sweet 95' LS Integra 80 miles away from me. I need to know the potential of it first though. A lot of people tell me to wait and get a GSR. But from what I have heard, the LSVtecs are better than the B18C1's. From the LSVtec I would then go and boost the engine. If all of that was done, what kind of power and torque numbers would I be looking at? Also what kind of 1/4 mile times would I be looking at? Finally, what kind of money would I need to do all of this?

Or is the LSVtec engine not a good engine to boost? What is the cheapest way to get the kind of power I want?

Skip the vtec head. Through a turbo on the stock motor.

well if you want reliable in anything you do, than you shouldnt be asking whats the cheapest way to do it. but if i were you i'd buy the integra, and just save up and boost the ls engine, instead of worrying about if you have vtec or not. because if your looking a cheap route to do this, then ls/vtec is not your thing, its not something you can just throw together on a budget, then expect it to run right, let alone after boosting it. and we really cant determine what power or torque numbers you'd be getting, or what 1/4 mile time you'd be getting, it all depends on how you build it. and finally an ls/vtec engine is good to boost in fact any engine is good to boost, you just need to make it good for forced induction you cant just slap a turbo on it then not tune it, or build the block, head, low compression pistons, etc... hoped that helped.

Really it depends on what you will actually do with your car. Will you actually carry out all of your different plans.

If I didn't want to boost it I would swap ina GSR, simple, effective, reliable and a fun motor to drive with.

If I wanted to boost it I would boost the stock LS and not bother with the head.

LSVtecs are a great choice but is more difficult than you other choices especially if you try to boost it.

Maybe even keep the stock LS and add some cams and other simple work and the car will be a great combination, not as fast but less expensive.

Really it all depends on what you really want out of your car and what you budget will support. Besides I would be most concerned with buying the car first and making it road worthy before messing around with the motor.

i'm biased to ls/vtec. i'm only doing mine because i got a b16 longblock and an LS short block for free. i can build one right now with stock parts but i'm waiting for cams and a new valvetrain. I only chose this route because it's my best choice when it come to power to cash flow ratio. if you can find the parts for cheap and have alot of patience wait for cheap parts to show up, go for it. i personally can't refuse building a sub $2000 R Killer setup

Cheap to me is something below 300 hp. I have around 8,000 to work with here. I don't want something with like 10000 hp and spend all that money. I want turbo for sure. A term I have been trying to search for in my head that integramark brought up is power to cash ratio. I want to have a good power to cash ratio. That is what I meant by cheap. The least money for the most power, but no compromise on reliability.

My target is 300hp. How much would I have to spend to boost my B18b1 engine to that much? It must be strong enough to be reliable though. Should I get a bigger engine and then boost if I want that much? What do you think?

cheapest 300whp would be boost. once you start doing the internals. it's gets pricey but it'll be alot less than trying to get 300hp out of an LS/vtec (if it's possible). i've set my goal for 200.

put it this way:

cheap. reliable. fast.....pick two

bump I have spent almost 4,000 on a turbo and getting it working and only gettin 231whp/191ft lbs. 300 with just a turbo is maybe out of your league...well maybe not oops

500 dollars for a dam b16 head, and 100 dollars for the golden eagle vtec kit, comes to a grand total of 600 dolars. itr and gsrs are vtec ready for a reason. vtec the ls then turbo the **** out of it.
