Default Has any one ever done B16B or a integra type R in a 4th generation?

I was just wondering if its been done before. I've never seen these motors in a 4th gen. I have always wanted to do a B16B swap using a cable tranny, but I know the $ per a HP is not worth such a swap. I think it would be nice to have a an integra type R(preferably the JDM versions, more HP) motor in my crx. I know it would have to be set up for obd II and the block is very tall, but what would be involed in doing this swap right? would I need a cowl hood? If anyone knows any info or has pics or a link it would be very helpful.

you dont need to run the obd2. you can eliminate it since your ecu wont read it off the motor. just use the necessities off an obd0 and wire it up. plug up everything you dont use and call it a day. the only thing you need to custom is the block side mount. most mount kits use a 2 prong motor mount while the typeR will come with a 3 prong. just replace that bracket from a 89-91 SiR or 90-93 LS and you'll be fine. your B Series calbe tranny will bolt up and everything will be all gravy.. dont worry about the hood. it should and would clear.

Save your money! Do not buy a B16B or a B18C5...unless you truely want to. At $3500+ (if your lucky), why? In a CRX...you can't use the Tranny, you can't use the ECU, and you can't use the distributor.

I'm running a B16A2 block from a 00 civic Si, and a JDM ITR top end. I used my old JDM B16A distributor (non OBD), and all the sensors that came on the ITR head & manifold...and I had no problems.
PLUG n PLAY!

Of coarse I added a few other goodies...but that's not what this topic was about.

I personnally think that the JDM ITR head/manifold/throttlebody is one of the best "Bolt-Ons" that you could do for a B16A. For $ 1500-1800, how could you lose. Go try piecing together a full head/manifold/TB from Skunk or someone else...not so cheap.

Considering if you already have a B16A swap, just change the block.

Here I am, yeah you can do it OBDII or OBD0, I choose the hard way and went with OBDII. I can't give you too much info on ECU's or dist. because I went OBDII and used all the itr stuff.
However, I can give you info on the hydro tranny if you want to buy the swap and don't want to give up the transmission, but to warn you first It takes a couple more modifications than a cable swap. I have a hydro transmision in an EF guide I wrote up that I'm still working on but if you want a pre-release copy of it email me and i'll send it out to you

3500 bucks...

sell the tranny... $1000 bucks
sell the ecu... $500 bucks
sell the distributor... $500 bucks

you just paid 1500 for an ITR long block... do the math.

ECU= $200
Dist = $200

Those OBD2 engine electronics aren't so desireable...
The lowest price I've seen for a Type R swap is $4000+shipping. I have no idea how legit that was. Even with selling stuff off (axles, OBD2 sensors, ECU, dist, tranny), you are still looking @ $2500-$3000 for the engine. And then you'd need compatible versions of everything that you sold off which is an even trade on most things, and you'd make about $600 on the tranny.

FIRST OFF, I'M NOT A NEWBIE!!!
I maybe new to honda-tech, but i have been fixing up hondas for almost 2 years now. I am always interested in things that heven't been done or are rare, such as type R motors in a 4G.

Okay, here my future plans for exactly what i would like to do: b18c (jdm R-spec or usdm c5) motor, ys1 cable tranny with type r gearset, run type r ecu & convert to obd II (or obd I if thats even possibe with type r ecu).

I dont want to run hydro tranny or obd 0. only reply if you know what your talking about or if you can offer a link with helpful info. please, no idiots.

If you use a cable transmission, it's the same as a B16 swap.
get Hasport mounts, remove the under hood support over the valve cover.
use a PR3 ECU and get it chipped with the Mugen ECU.
I have a B18C5 engine in my CRX. I used the Y1 tranny that came with the B16 I had in there before. I also used the PR3 ECU and the distributor.
I have had the car dynoed at 182 HP with stock cams set at zero and a stupid tiny
integra header. I have a Fields VTEC controller which gave me an extra 8HP when I adjusted the air/fuel ratio

would I need a cowl hood? If anyone knows any info or has pics or a link it would be very helpful.

Good luck.
I hope at 19, you have the funds to tackle this type of project.

Thank you spaceballs the lunch box . So your running Obd 0, right? sounds like you have a good set up . Who did your conversion? what your quarter mile times?
B.T.W. I dont have the funds (probably by the end of the summer) for this project yet, its just a dream for now.

Well the only advice I can give is, make sure you are prepared. Financially, and parts wise. My swap went about 900 over what i thought it was gonna cost...and 3 weeks longer. (that was due to the wrong parts being sent, or to little of a certian flywheel bolt). If you dont have another car...make sure you have EVERYTHING your going to need before you start. I thought I did..and ...well...I didnt. (there...I admitted it

My last setup consisted of, b18c5 block and head, jdm s1 cable tranny,jdm obd0 b16 distributor,injectors,pr4 obd 0 ls ecu with the skunk vtec program(it has fuel and timming maps for vtec just nothing to actually turn it on) and a vafc to actually activate vtec and tune. I never ran the car at the track so I dont have times. I'll post some pics for you when I get home. Here you go. Btw I was running all emissions equiptment.
