Default Better gas mileage?

I currently only get 18 MPG on my Civic LX.

I have no idea what is wrong but I am considering changing the air filter, maybe even a short ram intake? I'll also change the spark plugs and check the tire pressure.

I only go to up 180 miles per tank which is horrible. Am I missing anything?

Do you look at the gauge, or do you actually set the trip odometer to 0, drive around, fill up....and then take the miles driven and divide by the number of gallons you put in the car? Because Honda gas gauges are notorious for being shitty.

I actually write down the mileage at the pump and drive until it hits E, then I subtract the two following dividing over 11.

So..

Change fuel filter
Check tire pressue
Change spark plugs
Change air filter or intake?

just set the tripometer and top the tank off. Drive however many miles and then top it off again.

miles on tripometer / gallons used to top tank off = mpg

how may miles are on your car and when was the last time the O2 sensor was changed. that sounds right on par for having a bad O2

Yea, 02 sensor will do that and also you you should do a compression and leakdown test to see where your motor is at.

i used to get 280mpg, i put DSM 450's in my D series civic and it actually got better gas mileage once it was tuned, i get about 300 miles to the tank now. check your O2 sensor, are you throwing any CEL's?

They always do since there is only one measurement taken from within your tank. I think it's from the rear pass side of the tank so if you turn right it will read lower.

OP: I don't think your calculations are accurate

From the way you said you're measuring your MPG (just divide by 11) you're doing it worng, do what Bense said.

Which in turn will create more power, making it so you don't have to step on the gas as much.

If you want to get technical about it it doesn't really matter gas wise because they cancel each other out. You'd have to step on the gas that much more to aquire the same thing - but with the added air flow you won't need to open the butterfly as much - though the same ammount will be in there to achieve the same speed.

if you seriously think about it your claim makes no sense.
