I have installed a complete a/c system on my crx, I vacuumed for 30 minutes let it hold vacuum for 30 then I vacuumed another hour. The problem is when I went to add refrigerant the clutch would not kick on, I hotwired the clutch so that I could charge the system and filled it with 4 oz oil and 28 oz r134 total.
As of now I still can not get the compressor clutch to come on without hotwiring it, while it is on the system blows cold.
What all electrical things should I check to fix this. At first I thought it was the condensor fuse, which was out but that did not solve it. I have no condensor fan hooked up and im wondering if this may be causing it.

Well, you should check the A/C compressor relay. It's on the upper radiator support next to the passengers side headlight. There are two there & they are a PITA to remove. The rubber covers on them like to tear when you open them. Also, the insides are packed with water-proofing grease, so it's messy once you get inside. Your manual should tell you what pins to jump to see if the compressor clutch kicks on.

Also, check out the A/C evaporator thermostat. Remove your glove box, and you will see the large black box that houses the evaporator core inside. On the drivers side of that box, is a sensor with a 2 pin connector. That sensor is a thermostat that switches the compressor off once the evaporator gets too cold. This keeps the system at/near a specific temperature (34*f) when you use lower fan speed settings. To test the thermostat, simply un-plug it & jump the two pins of the plug with a paper clip. If the thermostat was stuck in the off position, the A/C compressor should now kick on. If it wasn't bad, the A/C won't kick on...

Don't let the bare metal paper clip touch anything metal because it will seriously mess with the A/C system...

 

I was checking these as you posted, everything on relay checked out then I jumped yellow to ground and it didn't kick in so it says relay is bad 8) Hopefully thats it.
And for the guy asking how hard it was, it was very simple.
This was my first time ever fabricating or working on a/c.

I fabricated bracket for b18a1 and crx system to work together, and installed all a/c components minus what was under the dash.
Just read up and be prepared for anything that may come up, honda tecvh is a great resource, use it.

 

Does anyone know if the condensor/compressor relays are the same, can I use the condensor relay to test, or can I just wire up a standard 30 amp relay to test ?

 

Look up the part numbers & compare them on SLHondaParts.com. The A/C relays will be in the "Body/Air Conditioning" section under the sub-section "A/C unit". Please post your results...

 

Tried friends relay and it did not fix it, so it is something else.

see if you have power to the compressor..if you do you most likely have a bad coil in the compressor and need to replace the compressor

Thanks guys got the helms manual too I did the troubleshooting for compressor clutch, but didnt notice there was more troubleshooting for fan+ compressor.
I have no condensor fan hooked up right now, and yes it is blowing really cold (and this is sitting still idling so i'd imagine it will be even cooler rolling) when I hotwire the compressor, and im in Texas. Right now compressor is on a switch until I can troubleshoot more.
