My DIY subwoofer installation
The purpose of this thread is to document my DIY experience with my 06 civic 1.8 a/t
I have asked a couple of shops but mostly have no experience installing the wiring kit on a 2006 civic. since they will be experimenting on my car, I decided to do it myself instead.
1. POWER CABLE ROUTING
The FD firewall is tucked deep under the dashboard that it is close to impossible in punching a hole on he rubber gromets around it w/o lifting the car or removing the wiper cowl so I decided to find a different location on where to route the power cable. Behind the left cheek light is a rubber grommet where the cheek light harness goes inside the car. This is where I punctured a hole for the power cable to run inside the car. Sorry no pics my hands were very dirty at the time 'coz i removed the wheel well liner... :D I found this technic easier than routing the wire through the firewall since I did not even went under the dash to find the cable.
Since the wire went inside the fender, it can be cleanly routed next to the battery.

Once the cable is inside the car it can be routed on the side as usual

Brand new car with dismantled interior panels...

My neighbor found this quite disturbing... :D
2. REMOTE SIGNAL FOR AMPLIFIER
Normally this is tapped on the head unit but I had a hard time figuring out how to remove the audio console to access the HU.Well after about an hour of trying to figure hout how to remove the audio / climate control console I finally gave up and looked for alternative source. I noticed the antenna is same as the 7th gen civic which uses the rear deffogger. this antenna unit has a power supply that supplies 12 volts once the HU is turned on.

On the socket, the black wire with no stripe is the remote signal from the HU. Power is supplied when ever the HU is turned on. And As I normally do with my electrical modifications, I dd not strip the original harness but removed the terminal from its plastic housing and spliced directly on the wire crimping so just in case of a warranty claim, I can cleanly remove mu connection w/o the dealer knowing it...

3. RCA OUTPUT
The FD HU is a fujitsu-ten HU. No RCA output for this HU
So I used a line out converter.

notice the brand? "BLOW FUNK"
) thanks to my good old friend Ian that donated this to me :D
I tapped this device to my rear speaker lines inside the trunk.

Then its just basic amp connections, zip-tied all cables for a neat look, wires are hidden and it's DONE!

My budget meal sound system is done... still using stock speakers front and rear... Sounds better than stock after some tuning...

Thanks guys!
the 8th gen was released in the philippine market april this year. I have asked shops in my area and they dont have any experience with the 8th gen civic and since I did my system on my EG, EK and ES, decided to do it myself for my FD
