california vehicle owner inspection?
alright, my car has a lein sale on the title so i have to take it to the dmv so they can vefify that i am in posession of the car so I can get my registration tags for the year
on the sheet it has a check list for: vin location, engine vin, emissions label, safety standards
the reasons I am concerned are, I has a replaced motor, I has a JDM front, and I have a non-srs steering wheel?
all my motor modifications are carb legal, the engine vin is intact, should I put my SRS wheel back in? and there isnt **** i can do about the jdm front
has anyone gone through this inspection before? It pretty much sucks dick, the person i bought the car from somewhat fucked me over

I brought a car back to cali from wisconsin and had to do a similar inspection...it was a turbo GSR (also had lien) and they didn't seem to mind the turbo setup..
It's just some dude/girl who looks for the things you mentioned, but I think you'll be ok..
I'm pretty sure the safety standards have to do with not being smashed in and dangerous, etc., not really air bags as much, since those don't even come in a lot of cars...
On mine they checked the VIN on the firewall and dash, didn't see her check the engine VIN(should be out of sight anyway I believe)..depending on your year there may be an easily viewable VIN on the tranny though..
Overall, I think you'll be alright...even though this state is the most strict, it's the Smog Check places/Referees that are the most meticulous..I believe the DMV mainly wants to make sure the chassis is what you say it is...good luck
