Default CDX-M800 Faceplate problems

My friend has the Sony Xplod cdx-m800. First off he started having problems with it such as he would hit the volume down button and the volume would go up. now, the faceplate side that has all the controls on it wouldnt work at all so we cant get the cd out at all... but the other side of the display would display everything(when faceplate is retracted agains the cd player all the way. then today we toolk it apart to make sure there were no loose wires/ribbons.

After we put it back in his 01 civic, the display on both sides of the faceplate wont workexcept forwhen it boots up, it displays the "SONY" and then it doesnt display anything else... but with his remote we can change the radio station and hear it.

I am wondering, if it is the faceplate ribbon that has gone bad. I am thinking it is because the only thing we really moved was the faceplate ribbon.

Any help is appreciated!

Be very careful, when the Sony CDX-M800 displays those symptoms it is about to Xplod.

Sorry couldn't help it, seriously the problem is in the face plate, I have seen the same or similar symptoms on that Sony HU, turned out to be cold solder joints in face plate, a real pain as they use "surface mount" technology. 94
