Default D-series, a6 or Z6

Alright, I have decided that I want to go the d-series route and build one up with a turbo. I am thinking of just buying a whole other engine to put on my engine stand and work on, so I can do more as I get money and parts, and still have my car to drive the whole time through the build, until I swap the finished motor. I am wondering if I should buy another d16a6 or d16z6 with the VTEC. Is the VTEC a big advantage in the d-series world. Tell me what you would do in the d-series world. No "B" for me, just cant afford it, and I think it would be fun to have a "D" to play with. Save the SOHC. Thanks guys.

good choice in staying d-series. anyway well they say the vtec sohc's flow better than the a6. but i have no prefrence personally i love my a6. you can build a A6 and Z6 just about the same. vtec is just a economic feature in saving gas. all though it would be nice but it really comes down to what you can get for cheaper.

check this thread out all your d-series set-ups you mostly see d16z6's on there and y8 just check it out.

thanks, I was hoping you would chime in, I love your avatar!! Well I think I am just gonna go with an A6. They are cheaper around here and I like to have money for other parts. What would you personally do yourself if you were in my situation 661rex89si?

im planing the same thing well im lucky though cuz i came up on a free d16a6 long block. so thats my turbo motor build engine. my current engine in my car will recieve the sc treatment. my hp goals using a sc are 200+hp then i plan on selling the kit to fund my turbo whenever i get bored of the sc. my plans thus far are a 300hp turbo d16a6/z6 mini me built around a t3/t4 57 trim 63 a.r turbo, vitara piston, tuner toys rods, built z6 head fully port and polish, zex cam, stuck on either y8 intake mani or z6, using crome etc....

No need for vtec. I like the a6. It has iron main caps and is pretty darn strong. The intake mani could be better along with port work and upgrading the cam.

A6/ZC sohc for the win, with a budget in mind. VTEC for D-series is way overrated.

The delta 272 cam is a damn good upgrade, get that and the Y8 intake manifold with turbo setup/management etc......for one potent *** D series!
