H22 Timing belt installation- HELP!
Just keep playing with it. If you've switched over to the manual tensioner, relieve the tensioner spring to give you more slack to play with.
What I normally do is get about 1/8" of the belt on all sprockets then move the belt on the cams halfway on. After that I would gorilla the belt on the crank sprocket. Usually takes me about 10mins to get the belt on (3rd) time installing the t-belt. Using pin punches to keep the cams still is also very useful.

what i do is relieve the tension on the tensioner, then put the belt on the crank sprocket, and then slip about 1/4 in on the exhaust cam, then on the intake cam I bend the belt back alittle bit until I can get it onto the intake gear then once its on, I just slide everything in.
Put the belt on the cam and crank gears then turn the cams and crank in opposite directions to tighten the belt opposite to the tensioner and this will creat slack on the tensioner side.
For example turn the crank CW and turn the cams CCW, the belt opposite to the tensioner will tighten and simultaniously will creat slack on the tensioner side, I may have gotten CW & CCW backwards.
Can you remove the tensioner pulley and get it behind the belt and then install the pulley or the tensioner / pulley set.
