EP3: CEL p1166 p1167
02 ep3 is throwing these codes:
P1166 Air/Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor (Sensor 1) Heater System Electrical Problem
P1166 Heated Oxgen Sensor Sensor1 (Primary HO2S) Heater Circuit Malfunction
P1167 Air/Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor (Sensor 1) Heater System Malfunction
P1167 Heated Oxygen Sensor Sensor1 (Primary LAF HO2S) Heater System Malfunction
I've not done anything to the car for the past 1.5years. It just happened. So, before I spend money buying the o2 sensor, can someone tell me how do I check both the primary and secondary sensor to make sure they are absolutely bad before I buy the replacements?
Also, I found this site selling for $180+:
http://www.oxygensensorwholesa....html
This site selling for $20 w/o the connectors:
http://www.partstrain.com/prod....html
Can I just buy the cheap one and slice it together w/ the original??
If someone can shed more light on what to look out for, I can maybe remove the whole thing and see if the sensor is bad, plug is bad, or plug is loose?? etc. etc.
Thanks.
UPDATE: I reset and now it is throwing P1166 only

the $20 sensor will not work for your car. it is a single wire sensor. the $23 sensor will also not work it only has 2 wires. the front 02 sensor is a half as wide band sensor it must be replaced with the same style. or you will waste your money with sensors.
Bought a Bosch sensor from http://www.autopartswarehouse.com (experienced some bad problems w/ CSR and shipping) but finally got the part after 2 weeks.
This is the Bosch part I bought: BS13680
Replaced the primary O2 sensor, clear the code w/ OBDII scanner, drove around for 1/2hr. and it didn't come back up.
Previously on the bad sensor, it would come back in 5 secs after I clear it.
02 EP3 w/ 79000 miles.
Btw, why would the second website I listed with the cheap $20-$30 sensor says it is for a 2002 Honda Civic 4Cyl 2.0L (Civic 2.0 Si 3Dr).

i don't mean to thread jack, but i am experiencing similar problems with a friends 02 type s....and btw it's bone stock with about 73k
it all started with a bad secondary o2. i replaced it and it was fine. then it started throwing a p1167 for the primary heater malfunction. i installed a new universal sensor, and it went away for a day. then it came back.
fast forward to yesterday. i got a universal bosch sensor from carquest and spliced it in. the p1167 came back immeadtely. so i reset the cel again and continued to drive the car. it started to hesitate on me during 0%-about 50% thorottle but if i went wot it was fine. aftert that no cel came back but the code reader was giving me a p1164 primary o2 sensor performance problem.
as of right now, i am at a loss other than there is a bad wire in there somewhere, but why would it throw 2 different codes when after i replaced the sensor nothing changed.
once again sorry for the thread jack, i'm just wanting to see if anyone is experiernce the same problems.

How many miles has it been since you replaced the 02?
jeebus, the bosh is 180+$, might as well just get the OEM for only 10$ more
Anyhow, I've got over 150k miles on my stock o2 sensor running with a Casper's o2 sim on the secondary + k-pro. I run with OBDII enabled and have not had a primary O2 code yet. I'm amazed at the life i've gotten considering that everyone else seems to have had theirs go bad significantly before mine has.
