Default Royal Purple Oil?

Just wondering if anyone runs Royal Purple engine oil in their civics? also wondering what weight oil everyone uses? like I think honda recommends 10w20 or something like that.

Is it a good idea to run 5w30 or big mistake?

do you actually gain anything by using royal purple?? i.e. does it live up to the hype??

actually yeah i have read it before when i got the car 9 months ago, i didn't read it again last night when i got off work and i don't have it with me right now since i'm working...

also i'm not asking what the engine is supposed to run, i'm asking what other people run, as i've seen people on here posting that they run different oil than what's "suggested" in the manual / on the oil cap...

and the main thing i'm really asking is:
does royal purple live up to the hype or not?

my apologies if i'm asking something that i could just get the answer out of the manual...also, does anyone know of anywhere that i could find a PDF version of the manual online?? been looking, can't find it...

What kind of "advantage" are you looking for? You're car isn't going to be faster because of your oil. I'd love someone to tell me their car drives better because of the oil they use. Someone with a new car atleast.

Well, ok with the last oil change i had i used the OEM Honda synthetic and i noticed little diff in gas milage, it still ran the same amount of KM before i have to change it.

now of course with royal purple they make all kinds of rediculous claims. i.e. "up to 10hp gain" lol, increase in gas milage (maybe), etc...

actually here is something right off their site:

Independent tests clearly document the power, protection and performance of Royal Purple® Motor Oil.

1.5 - 3.0%
Increase in Engine Horsepower and Torque

3 - 5%
Saves Fuel over Other “Energy Conserving†Oils

400%
Greater Film Strength - Reduces Wear1

> 20%
Reduces Harmful Exhaust Emissions

Up to 12%
Reduces Engine Heat

300 - 500%
Greater Oxidation Stability - Increases Oil Life2

it is $7.90 per/litre and i need 4 litres ($31.60+tax) plus filter to do it myself. (almost $100 for oem synthetic change @ my dealer, but they do regular maintenance as well)

is any of this stuff royal purple claims true or just a load of advertising crap..

There's nothing wrong with running 5w30 on your car.

We carry Royal Purple Oil at my dealership, but a new oil line that we are carrying since last weekend is none other than, ENEOS Oil. It is the Number 1 oil in Japan and is an awesome synthetic oil. Granted this is a more expensive oil, it does have its advantages. On one of their sponsored drag cars from NHRA, the driver posted an 8hp increase just by switching to the ENEOS oil. He usually ran Mobil 1 but made the switch. Noone believed him, so they dyno'd the results with and without the ENEOS oil. 8hp from oil? I'll take that any day. Costs about $8 a quart. I usually run Mobil 1 on all of my cars, but I will be making the switch on my next oil change. I'll let you guys know, how it feels/runs.

I'm using mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30
After my oil change, I noticed my ride
being smoother.
If this occurs normally after an oil change
for any oil, then I take back what I said.

Alright hold up a lil bit...how many miles do you have on the car...you need to use regular oil to break in your engine first...I dont know how many miles you have on the car but you need to use regular oil first and then I would go for the royal purple. Everything said about Royal Purple is great so I would totally do it even if you bring it into the dealership and have them do it for you so they can still check it over.

Its a common feeling after any change. Some oils will feel "smoother" than others, like Synthetics. I have been using Royal purple for 2 years in my car and I could feel when I took it to the dealership and request no oil change (yet they did anyway) during a maintenance check. It felt.. heavier. Thicker. Powerwise, it felt the same but it made everything just smoother running.

And according to the all knowing Tatsuru Ichishima, if you are a daily driver w/ little modification and a once in a while track person, using the OEM oil is the best choice for you. Also note Mobile makes the Honda synthetic oil. I'm not sure about the conventional stuff at Honda.

honda recommends 5w-30 fully synthetic on all their motors, but it really doesnt matter what weight as long as its fully synthetic
