Default Broken gas gauge?

I don't know what's wrong, but when I'm driving my 89 Civic LX for a while, the gas gauge creeps up to above Full. I know I do NOT have a full tank, so what's wrong here? After the car sits for a while and I restart it, it will come back to the right indication, but then it will creep back up again after I drive a bit. I can't figure how the gas floater would just move by itself, and I can't figure how how the fuel pump would have to do anything with it, so is it the sending unit? I am NOT taking this to a dealer if I can fix it myself

You might want to take the needle off, fill up your tank then put the needle back on. But be VERY careful because the metal pin that goes into the guage motor will come out pretty easy, and then you'll have to go the junk yard, since the Honda dealers want like $90 for it and the temp guage together, and you can't buy them seperately.

Heh, no way dude! It's not the gauge. It's gotta be the sender unit or the floater! Does the cable run by the catalytic convertor by any chance? You think it's heating up, then making the cable expand or something?
