Default Farting mufflers

I don't get it. Why do people spend money on ugly looking, cheap mufflers with large, pretentious ODs (because the ID is like 1/3 the size) that give them 3 extra hp at 6000 rpm (and maybe 1hp at 3000 rpm) and make the same farting sound that you can make by blowing into the palms or your hands.

When I was 18 I did that to my Honda. It took me 3 days to realize what a frickin moron I was. Then I took it off.

I think that everyone just has to go through that. Ooooh!!! Farting sound FTW!!! Then you wake up a little hairier, worn down, and wiser.

Then we appreciate the beauty in stock vehicles and more mature mods for self and not others.

Simply put... MATURITY.

Although there are those whom still push this envelope and love the farting sound at ripe older ages. So, again I guess... TO EACH HIS OWN.

haha Yeah...some exhausts are nice...some are fart canon's.

I've gone through the many phases of modifcations, and I admit I bought an ASpec exhaust for my Fit, but it's getting sold. No fart canon for my Fit.

It's probably a personal prefrence kinda thing...
I didn't feel like it was smart or even worthwhile to drop $300+ on an axel-back rear section when I could just have a section of straight pipe mounted instead of a muffler. I got about the same result sound wise.

BUT if we're just talking about massive N1 style fart canons then, yes, those are silly.

at what point does it become a fart cannon? Im still on my stock exhaust BTW. And was looking into exhausts, but realy dont want that pissed off bee sound, or the blowing air onto your palms noise. Is it just the diameter of the exhaust that causes this?

The only exhaust I've seen on the market that doesn't sound terrible is th Wagolis, but its only sold as a muffler (no B-pipe), and its pricey.

I'll stick with my stock exhaust for now.

MOst fairly priced exhausts sound good IMO. Don't expect sothing you bought for 150-300 bucks to sound good. I've used greddy, apex'i, and comptech... it's all your own personal opinion but I've never had one that made the fart can noise or the angry bee buzz. Just spend the money and it will all be worth it! Just my .02 cents

It's everything. The type of material, the stiffness of the material, the shape, the diameter, the length, the baffle features in the muffler, the resonator, etc... Saying it's just the diameter is like saying a giant pipe organ sounds that way only because of the diameter of the pipe. If you like the sound of a Ferarri or a Porche or a G35 or a Harley it's because engineers spent effort on the entire system to get that sound.

That's why these after-market exhaust are just hit-or-miss. It's only a part of your exhaust system that creates the sound.

Pretty much any copy of the Apexi N-1 design. Most copies are the muffler that gets either clamped on or welded onto the stock piping. No one seem to get it on straight or it's too long and sticks way out so they have to bend it down at a funny angle.

If you buy a honda, you'll get honda sound high pitch. if you want g35 350z, youll get v6 tone. Any exhaust you end up buying it will be the same or simlar tone. No way around it.

Thankyou.

Mugen Twinloop + B16A = as far from high pitched as you get. Not farty. either--just sounds like a tuned engine.

Not sure how it'll sound on a Fit, but if it sounds similar to how it does on a 99 Si, then it would be perfect.

+1

My Si has a mellow low tone as well. Not deep, but low. Apexi WS + 2 resonators. One is in the Apexi piping and the other is a resonated test pipe.

Agree'd. I've also got apexi ws2 and it sounds great. An exhaust will sound much better on an naturally aspirated car with a nice cat, resonator, and a chambered muffler.

RS*R ExMag is one of the quitest ones around as well. now THAT was a stealthy exhaust system. I had the 3" turbo exhaust on my SR20 240sx and never got harassed by police. Even when they were next to me or getting on the FWY.

I've got a thermal r&d and love it. Nice deep sound, not high pitched, and not too loud.

I had a Mugen Twin loop on my turbo civic, some of the best 900 bucks I ever spent... sounded awesome.

I had an enormous fart can on the second 240sx I bought when I was in high school. The previous owner had installed it. It was so large, that you could fit your fist inside of the tip. I remember going out to the parking lot one time and finding a ball of snow and mud inside the thing, kids nowadays..
