Default headunit mounting help

well i have a JVC headunit ucrrently and it is not mounted. it is just resting on my console and the metal bracket in the back of the part were the console screws on to. how do it make it so that the headunit is mounted properly and held in place. i have the mounting bracket and the sleeve but the holes on the factory metal piece behind the console wont line up with holes in the headunit. what should i do?

The sleeve for the head unit should have little tabs, put the sleeve in place then push them little tabs. That should be sitting tight with no movement, after hooking up all your wires just push the head unit into the sleeve.

so youve got the plastic piece from Metra or whoever that your cage mounts to?

all you need after that is a couple of screws to mount the plastic piece. In my case, I lost the plastic white squares that honda screws will thread into, so I used some carriage bolts and nuts and installed them backwards. If you need pics, I'll take some. Just let me know.

my question is how do you have it mounted. what kind of screws, brackets, etc are you using to keep it secure? i already have the sleeve and trim piece.

sorry about the wait.

In this picture, you can see the cage with the bendable tabs (yes I know I missed a tab). This is pressed up against the black plastic bezel. the black plastic bezel is held to the car by two of those big ol carriage bolts with a nut. This really provides no extra security, I just used them because I did not have the regular honda screws and the plastic squares to thread into.

once you mount the plastic bezel to the car, that is enough to secure it.

**edit: to make it easier on yourself, mount the bezel/cage you assembled FIRST, then slide the stereo in it. It will snap into the cage perfectly if you have the correct cage for the stereo. (This is unless you modify this assembly to make it difficult for theives. youll know what im talking about once you look at it.

Try a place that installs stereos or on line..
at http://www.crutchfield.com/S-WdHJSIqGNNb/

You can also usually find the stuff at Best Buy
if you talk to the stereo installers..

Also see: http://www.installdr.com.
and http://www.the12volt.com/com/

I actually got that one from Best Buy. Costed me about 15 if i remember correctly. Installer.com has a lot of good stuff too (but not that particular bracket, oddly enough).

Metra is the brand name. just go to Best Buy and tell them you need the plastic mounting peice for a stereo in a 1990 civic. the part that mounts to the car.

looks like all three of those above sites dont have what he needs.

if THAT doesnt work, then I'll have to see what part number my bracket is.

maybe its old news now, but here is the picture of everything assembled.

the stuff in the ashtray area was actually my cd changer control mount when i had a cd changer. Yes it is made out of Erector. You'd be surprised what Erector is compatible with in our cars!

I'm thinking of making a cellphone mount in that spot at some point.
