overheats over 80mph, because of wrong headgasket?
I may swap in a d15z1 to my ef, but the z1 in its current car overheats in 5th gear above 80mph.
The owner used the wrong (non vtec) head gasket, could this be why?
The owner also says he uses water instead of antifreeze, could this be why?
Thanks, Frank.

I dont have the answer, but I can damn well tell you that if you use water in NJ in the winter time, you better be prepared to crack a block or two.
But replace the headgasket, add in some 50/50 antifreeze mix and see what happens. Thermostat could be stuck closed, but I would figure it would overheat all the time if that was the case.
