92-95 civic owners help me replace my steering wheel! talk to me like a 2yr old!
ok ive got my momo champion steering wheel sitting here in the closet collecting dust, the guy that was going to help me install it is very busy lately. so im going ttry and do it myself. i just need to know any tips and tricks anyone has and what tools i will need,etc... btw i have cruise so thats in front of the wheel (no i dont want to keep it) thanks in advance.
Don't have it in front of me, but the Haynes manual walks you through it step by step, lots of detailed photos. You can find a copy at almost any half decent auto parts store; lots of other goody info too. Good luck.
Ill try to explain it.....I'm trying to remember so go easy on me.
1.) There are 2 10mm bolts on each side of the steering wheel--You gonna have to take off the cruise control module if your car has this option. After that the 2 10mm bolts are there which hold on the airbag. One bolt is under the cruise switch and the other (i think) is in between the plastic cover and the turn signal.
****Take off the plastic around the column. This can be done by just pulling apart. It all connects like lego's (like most honda stuff).
2.) Once the airbag is off. You have to disconnect the the wires for the horn. It is connected with a phillips head screw. It's at the very top of the inside of the steering wheel.
3.) After this you have to remove the 19mm nut. This is what's holding the steering wheel on. This part is easy.
4.) Now the hard part. The srs control module (i'm not sure the tech. name) that is below the steering wheel. You can't miss b/c you won't be able to get the steering wheel off. On my car (93 hatch) it was yellow or red (can't remember). Just mess with this for a while, I plulled on mine and it came out fine. I pulled from underneath the column where it connected into.
Once you get the SRS module out it's all smooth sailing. Just put on the hub and connect the steering wheel. If you have any more questions email me. Hope this helped.

just to make one comment on the airbag. On my 95 civic, it had torx screws holding the airbag in place. I'm not sure whether its factory like this or it was changed. Just wanted to give my input.

btw, do any of you have your horn hooked up for your momo or sparco steering wheel in a 92-95 civic?
There's a specific warning about how to avoid the airbag going off in your face, it's in the Helms manual, which you all should have anyway.
I need to make my damn horn work w/ my Mugen (Momo) wheel someday, who knows how to do it? All my friends always bitch at me for having no horn to honk, lol.

those two screws holding the airbag in place are TORX T30 size just so ya can get the right size tool, dudes.
easy install really.
~unplug battery first.
~pop off plastic trim pieces on wheel.
~disconnect airbag connector, all SRS connectors and SRS wiring is yellow.
~unscrew TORX screws.
~lift out airbag unit.
~grab a 19mm socket on an extension and remove the wheel... be sure the wheel is centered and the front wheels are pointed straight forward.
~remove the SRS cable reel, rip it out/ unplug it under the dash.
~wire the horn to the brass ring on the hub adapter.
~bolt up the hub.
~connect the positive and ground to the horn.
~screw on the wheel to the hub.
~all set

ok i installed my wheel, just to add a few comments, there is a small plastic plate under the steering wheel in the middle, that is where you unplug the SRS wire, there is also a red plastic plug that your supposed to plug in that port once removed. this is so the bag wont deploy i guess.
the two screws on the sides were torx screws, maybe its different on some models.
the reel is a bitch to remove, i tried at 1st to remove it w/ out breaking anything but couldnt get the plug undone (the one that leads under the steering column) so i just cut it. if i ever decide to put the bag back in i'll just pick that part up at a junkyard i guess. overall everything went pretty smooth, took me about 45 minutes, the horn no longer works though but i'm just going to hook up a pushbutton job on the dash or something.
anybody know what wire to snip to make the srs light go off? or do i just pull the fuse?

There are 2 types of horn buttons one wire and 2 wire. I got the one wire. It connects to the ground. really easy to do.
well there was a red and black wire in the wheel so im guessing it's two wire, but ive heard the horn wirirng doesnt work correctly w/ aftermarket wheel....
