i just bought a hatch, but can ya'll answer me this question?
the 92 si hatch i just bought has the b16 engine in it, but it was rebuilt and is dual overhead cams instead on teh single cam that the engine that year had. so basicaaly its like a newer si engine.
have any of u guys heard of people doing this or do any of you know how much power it would add to that engine, by adding the extra cams???

Oh boy...before anyone flames on you, I'll give you a little insight. The 92-95 Si hatch came with the D16Z which is a single cam Vtec with 125hp while the B16 (depending on which one you got) was a dual cam engine with 160hp-170hp. Unless you've been away in Alaska or something, you would know that hybrids are very common within the Honda world.
my bet, i might have confused you a little....what the guy is telling me is just mad wierd...i hope its a b16 , ad not a built up d16. the information he giving me is just mad confusing....
thanx for clearing that up. oh and obviously hybrids are big, its what honda/acura are good for!
another question, did any of the usdm 92-95 si hatchs come with the b16a1,2,3 engine?

From the information you are giving makes it sound like you have a D16Z block, and a B16 head on it. This would not happen. You should have a different block and head then stock. Check the block number next to the headers. It should say B16A?. It is probably not the cable tranny B16, because that would just be too much trouble. You either have a USDM B16 out of a Del Sol (B16A3), a USDM B16 out of a 99-00 Civic SI (B16A?). Or you should have a JDM B16 out of a 92-95 hatch (B16A?). The USDM B16's have 160 hp, while the JDM B16 has 168 hp, unless it is a B16A1. Then it is the older cheaper B16 out of a EF chassis, that has a cable tranny, but that would be a lot of trouble to change the already hydro tranny to cable. The B16A1 would have 160 hp. Also to answer your question, non of the USDM hatches come with a B16 stock.

No it isnt. B-series and D-series engines arent interchangable like that.

Sounds to me like its a motor out of a first gen Integra. Those had a DOHC D-series motor in them. No VTEC though.

this is simple.
pop your hood..
does the valve cover say "dohc vtec" on it?
check the block..near the tranny does it have a stamp that says "b16a".. or "b16a2" etc etc.
if not.. you probably have a single cam =P

I was wondering about this since the originator of the post is my friend...how easy is it to disguise a crappy engine? Would a valve cover from a B-series fit on a D-series? If so, then watch out Lemu.

fack, i thought i was clueless, but i can EASILY make the difference between a B and D series engine, the valve cover is completly different...
for the person who knows less about the engines, if it's a straight up metal looking cover, it's D....
B's have a way nicer looking cover, more square and hard plastic type... with a seperate wire cover in the middle...

Hey Bude, get out to your car, pop the hood, and check the engine code on the block out! You may have to take a flashlight. Remember everything you see, and post it. We'll give you the skinny after that! Good luck!

Dude, I'm gonna give you a real bad time about this response.
thanx fellas
i found out i have a b17 head on a b16 block in teh 92 si. i'm not exactly sure why the dude before me made that mod, but i'll work with it for now.
i know people usually get bigger block, with smaller high compression heads so i thought it was a little peculiar

heres an easy way to figure out if its a D16 or B16
pop the hood if it says DOHC on it then its B16
if it says SOHC or it doesnt say anything at all and its really small engine then its D16
