i have an 89 hatchy, and when i get ready to start the car i can hear the fuel pump engage. but once the car is running i can still hear a that same whining sound from the pump.

is this a bad pump or something? its pretty annoying..

 

oh i forgot to mention that the car runs a little rough..

 

Some non-honda replacement pump whine. It's hard to say because well...to replace the fuel pump you need to drop the tank, which sucks, so it's always the last reserve. You can check the current going to, and thru, the pump from the inside by taking out the back seat and exposing the pump wiring. A good way to test the pump.

Do a tune up on the car to make it run nicer.
