act 15k clutch starting to slip All new clutch or just disk? $150 or $500+
Hi-
So im going to replace me clutch soon "with in this month" my clutch is starting to slip this past month after about 15k miles on it. I was wondering if i should replace the whole clutch or just throw out bearing and disk.
I wanna save money but i dont mind buyin the whole kit if I ONLY need to. I love the clutch its been pulling hard for a long time.
I was kinda hoping the pressure plate was still good and just go with the bearing and disk 150 looks alot better then 500+
your opion would be great thanks guys

Why did the clutch wear out so fast? If the pressure plate wore out the clutch, replace it. Its common practice to replace everything at once. Especially in a case of a premature wore out clutch. Unless its from your driving style and you know this for sure, I would replace everything, inlcuding pilot bearing.

hmm I have about 100K on my Clutchmasters stage 1, and I was told I could just replace the disc and keep using the pressure plate. Every now and then it'll slip a little when I start off in 1st gear, but never any other times.
Patrick, I would personally buy everything. BUT you can just replace the disc, but then when something else fails, you either had to do the job again, or fork out the money for the same labor.
It is very cost effective to replace it all at once, since the labor will be like .5 hours more tops.

labor haha what's that? my own muscle!
Me and my buddy put in my Clutchmasters Stage 1 clutch and light flywheel about 3 years ago (100K on them already!
), and now I was planning on just replacing the friction disc and the steel friction surface on the aluminum flywheel.
If the clutch disc has not completely worn down yet, then the pressure plate should still be okay to use right?

u put the clutch in, and eithor did not get the flywheel or pressure plate re surfaced.... or you beat the hell out of the clutch soon as it was installed, you need to do a wear in period of 500 miles, before abusing it
yes. Replace the disc and your good. Think about how often you change a factory clutch kit. About every 30k or so depending on driving. Clucthes are one of those things that dont wear out that often. Plus an aftermarket clutch is like 30 times more durable.

my original clutch lasted till 135K miles before pieces broke off the disc. My brother's del Sol original clutch lasted over 160K before the car wouldn't even move any more.

this time re-surface the flywheel and pressure plate. and do not beat on the clutch(wear it in smoothly, or dont drive crazy, no dropin the clutch at 5 k) wear it in for 500 miles. then have fun, but be safe!
