Default ease my worries! (cam install)

have a stock b16 and just put in valvetrain with buddy club spec 3+ cams...but went over how long we originally thought it would take... SO now I am runnin without a tune on a map tuned for my stock b16. I have a decent drive to work tomorrow, and wont be able to get it tuned till friday morning. I am babying the **** out of it but im still paranoid.

Can I cruise around without the tune? or is damage happening.
(im not driving like an ******* at all--- it never comes above 4 grand)

TIA

What's up man this is Ben from the Boeing autox.

You should be fine till then if you baby it, just try to stay away from high loads, low rpm on hills, quick throttle applications etc. Where are you getting it tuned?

Should be ok, bc3+ isnt an extremely aggressive cam. Dont drive it more than you have too. Good luck with the tune. I will be coming to pa to have j-k-tuning tune my rm22 cams soon.

Let me know how those cams turn out, I'll be installing some soon also.
Thanks

Aside from excessive carbon buildup from running rich, you will be fine.

The BC3's have large intake primaries which significantly drop manifold pressures, so you will be running absurdly rich out of vtec, and also in vtec, just not to the same degree as on the primaries.

Does it have a hard time idling?

its running rich? hmm for some reason i thought iw ould be running lean as hell. and yes--- it will only idle 1 out of 10 complete stops at 1k rpms. THe other times it drops to 400-600 but hope fully that will all be taken care of tomorrow

Many make this assumption because they assume they are making more power, and thus the "stock" fuel will not be adequate. Well, Honda's engine managment utilizes a MAP sensor and rpm primarily to determine fuel. Because of the BC3+ large primaries, at any given rpm the MAP signals are higher (or less vacuum), more pressure or less vacuum equates to more fuel on the fuel maps in the ECU.

Im not sure if this matters, but I am not using a stock p30-- i have a chipped p28 with a program that was tuned for my motor before--- Would I still be running rich?

Does not matter which ECU, but it does matter what the motor was tuned with before. If OE cams then you will be rich and should be fine for a short period until retuned.
