Default help, they wont let me bring my car back with me

so here is my question, i have a us spec 91 honda civic, with a euro spec b16 swap. i am in the military and am currently in germany. now the epa says i cant bring my car back with me due to engine tampering laws or some crap like that. is there any way around this, besides shipping engine seperate from car? do they even check since it is a us spec car? if there is any way possable or any info would be great. thanks

How would the EPA know that you have an engine swap? Here in Calif. when we do emissions tests we check if the engine displacement is within the engine family size. If the engine size matches up with the engine displacement family then it's o.k. 1.5L & 1.6L engine size should be o.k., just don't mention anythig about the engine swap. You should be alright.

Dude germany made ****** 88-91 hatchbacks SIR with b16a from the factory like that, wtf do they care if you have a US model civic hatch with a b16a, besides 1.6 sohc, or 1.6 DOHC, they both 1.6 LITER.

Because it could be a "safety" thing would be my guess..

EPA shouldn't regulate this, Customs and such would. Someone is lieing to you, or something sketchy is going on.

I am in the military as well and I know someone that was stationed in germany who had the same exact issue as you, he had no problem getting it back here. Just dont say anything obviously and you should be fine. I will talk to my NCO as well who just came from Germany to confirm this.

Sending your car over with the swap won't be legal as the b16s of that era weren't legal in the us.

You'll either have to restock it or bring it over titleless.
