Default Cracked Fuel Pump

I have a 2005 4-cyl Accord Coupe which is at the dealer now. Apparently the fuel pump was not seated correctly in the gas tank and has cracked and I had been inhaling raw gasoline fumes. Has anyone heard of this happening before? Is this something that could have slowly been leaking over time until it cracked to the point where the smell was really noticeable? Is this something that might affect other parts of the engine/transmission/vehicle in the long-term? Hopefully, this won't have long-term effects on me physically!

The Honda dealership has assured me that they are having their master technician go over the car from top to bottom to make sure that everything else is working as it should be.

What type of documentation should I be asking for (in case I need to use it in the future)? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Lea

Never heard of this before. If you were inhaling alot of gasoline you'd know, trust me. If the smell was not very noticable then it's highly doubtful it did any harm to you.

Will this type of thing affect my car in the future? What paperwork should I request from the dealer in case something goes wrong in the future? Actually, the dealer said they've never seen this type of problem before either. I want to make sure that the life of my car will not be shortened in the future or that I won't have repairs in the future that will have been caused by this.

The only thing you really have to worry about is the fuel pump itself and possibly the tank. I'd just get regular receipt detailing the work complete and parts replaced that's all. I'd request to have a detailed explanation of the problem on the receipt if the service manager is willing (and they should be, given the rarity of the problem).
