I have a 96 gsr with 113,XXX miles on it. when I start it up (cold start) i hear a little rattle from the motor..I know it isn't that valves because I just adjusted them. When the motor is warm, this does not happen. My father heard it and said my rod bearings needed to be replaced..is this so? And if so, could I go about doing it from the bottom, like after removing the oil pan? Any write ups on this? Thanks.

 

Are you sure its from the engine? It might be you cat or heatsheild.

 

Did you ever get an answer on this? I kind of have the same problem. Sounds like it is coming from inside the motor. My valves lash is all within spec. Only happens on cold warm ups and not when it is warm. I never noticed any issues other than the sound at cold start up.

Same here...not injectors/valves. My dad says its in the valvetrain...but i dont think so. A possibility might be the LMA's but im not going to pull my motor apart untill i get all the parts for my NA build.

 

Yea, in searching the archives I found some people mentioning LMA's but I don't feel like going through the hastle of replacing LMA's if it really isn't going to hurt the motor.

 

I have this same thing and it sounds more like its comming from my exhaust.

 

Well mine does it at 1500 RPM but i found out that its from my exhast!!

 

yea, never got the final say so on this, but i'll find out soon, gonna take out the motor and build it for boost. so the rod bearings will be replaced.

 

You could always try one of those automotive stethascope's. Try to narrow down the area where the rattle is comming from.
