Default whats the best possible tranny

im a new user, and i finally just got my very own itr, i bought it off a friend who really didnt know how to drive, when i got it it had a slight chirp/grind going into 3rd, i know the best thing would have been to get it fixed right away, but tuning on a budget plus the rediculous cost of living in cali, i couldnt. now, theres no churp just grinding after 5000 rpm, becuase everyone wants to try and run with an itr i admit i made the problem a whole lot worse. ne who i had taken it to get a qoute at a shop near by, this guy suggested swapping it out for a b16, but keep my diffs from the tranny i have nowto keep it lsd, hes says the b16 would be would open my car up so much more. i m looking for some knowledgeable feedback and am open to any and all suggestions. thanks

Your tranny shop doesn't know much about Honda transmissions then.

The recent 16A/USDM/JDM 96spec transmissions all share the same gear ratios.

Your best bet would be to either get a final drive, either in OEM 4.785 variety, ATS 4.9, MFactory/Infinitude 4.9 and/or close/cross gears....

Otherwise, just replace the syncros + bearings + hubs.... I just like the peace of mind, while it's possible that the syncros will only require replacing...

pulled two Bseries transmissions in the last month... wasn't exactly fun

F that, keep your tranny and do a tranny fluid flush, see if that helps first. If not you can pull the tranny and replace the scyncros (sp?) for around $230. As for what the best tranny is there are many options and gearing you can explore but it really depends on your goals for the car i.e. auto x, road race, daily driver, drag? Each of thes different types of racing have very different needs when it comes to the gearing.

if the oil light come on...its usally to late. thats why they call it a idiot light. your an idiot for letting it come on.

It's burning oil. Not uncommon. Does your car smoke at full throttle? Black residue on bumper?
