Need help painting lip
ok i had this lip in my garage for awhile and now just got around to painting it. it looks like it has some deep scratches from the person before trying to sand it. it almost looks like its 100 grit.
can i just spray primer over it and then paint it? will that cover the marks made from the 100 grit? or will i have to go finer to finer grit to get it out?

if u try to paint it with deep scratches from the 100grit the paint wont fill it...so work ur way up to about 1000grit, usually places like pep boys or autozone sell a multi pack of sandpaper that u can buy for like $5

ok i got all the scratches out and everythings good. cleaned it, scuffed with 400 then cleaned it again, layed down 2 coats of primer then painted with the base coat. after about 3 light coats of the base, the primer is still showing through, like hte rough parts of the primer.
kinda hard to explain but i guess i forgot to sand down the primer to smooth it out before i painted.
so can i sand it down now with something really fine like 1500 grit to get rid of it?

ok its not going on smooth. there's really really tiny spots and feels rough on some parts. then some parts look as if its orange peel. i sprayed 2 light coats and 2 medium/heavy coats.

wet sand what you have so far with some 400 or finer sand paper, the spray some adhesion promoting primer(they enen have it in a car if you dont have a gun), spray the base, wet sand imperfections, anouther coat of base then clear

dont sand up to 1000 grit, youre going to have adhesion problems and will chip off easily...sand it up to 600, shoot gobs of primer, wetsand that then base and clear.

so sand it with 600 first? thne primer, what grit to wetsand with after primer?
i sprayed 3-4 coats of primer and wetsanded it with 1000 grit. and its still coming out all wrong.
im guessing its the spray paint.
