b16a2 rebuild price....
sup guys i'm looking for a Em1 for my little bro and i seriously cant find one thats at a good price with good mileage...and the same time in stock form...my parents are picky about cars and only will buy him a civic...not a new one but a used...so bascially he has a choice of a Em1 or EJ8...anyways...i found some em1s that are a good price but has high mileage and still in stock form...i'm thinking find a em1 that still has a good body/paint and interior...then rebuild the motor to stock form...remember my parents are bitches...they didn't let me get a em1 so i was stuck getting a 99 ex which i with my own money converted to a si...haha..yes i know stupid but there really stricked on insurance cost....so i wante to know how much its gonna cost to rebuild a stock b16a2 motor..with oem parts...suggestions on how to rebuild the motor are welcomed...
Depends on if you are going to rebuild the entire motor, just the top end, just the bottom end. I just did the bottom end on my b16a2, and it cost me about 200 for CTR pistons + rings, 100 for the bearings, 30 to have the wrist pins pressed in out and in, 50 for the cylinder hone, and probably like 150-200 for tools, and other random crap I had to buy that I needed. Took me about 2 days worth of actual labor to do the whole thing. And I put my head gasket on upside down, so I had to take the whole head off again. And I did it all in my driveway.
But these prices vary on the place you get the parts, the quality of the parts, the quality of the machine shop(unless you know someone)...etc etc etc.

i'm talking about motors that are 100+k on the motor...

Do you tell your parents everything you do/buy? I don't think your dad would be able to differenciate (sp) if you were to put in ctr pistons or different cams.

i would really not just up and rebuild a motor that is fine. doesnt make any sense. especially if hes not makeing anything over stock power. just save the money untill he needs it. pick up a bare block and build it slowly on the side would be the best.

will the motor still pass smog with ctr internals? this is for my little brother...and my dad knows his stuff about cars...i'm sure he can't tell between b-series motors and the whole import scene but he'll be the one buying the parts...so knowing him he'll want only dealer parts...

on another note why are you gonna spend all that money on the car just to rebuild the motor. makes no sense. 100k+ miles is not that much if it was maintained. many people boost stock b16s with well over 100k miles on it daily.
fact is that its a honda, so you really dont have to worry about it if its around 150k miles. Rebuilding it should be too expensive seeing as how a full b16 swap can be found for around 3g's. So i'd guess around 1-2k for a FULLY rebuilt motor(depending on parts, where you buy and blah blah blah).
