highest compression on regular gas? (87 octane)
just wondering. looking at putting together a n/a D16 for my daily driver, and i've got a complete rotating assembly from a D16A1 with P29 pistons. obviously, head and head gasket choice will make a lot of difference in what fuel i could run, so i wonder how high i can run the compression before i have to go to premium fuel.
I'd take it no more than 10:1 USDM b16's and GSR's say to run premium fuel, and I'm not sure of the GSR's compression, but the b16's run 10.4:1. Maybe 10.5:1 with a good tune.

usdm gsr = 10.1:1
jdm gsr = 10.6:1
usdm gsr = 10.1:1
jdm gsr = 10.6:1
Why are you guys talking about B-series when he asked about a D-series?
I don't think you'll get away with regular gas with P29s

p29s will break ringlands if you're not running 93 octane ...at least on a z6, and ESP on a y8 head. D16A I think will be okay on 91/89. But 87 is out of the question, sorry.

well, with P29s and a Z6 head, i can get comp ratios between 10.39:1 and 12.43:1, depending on what headgasket i use. i even know of a company that will make a 0.113" headgasket - that'd get comp below 10:1, but that's also an insanely thick headgasket.
so i guess, based on lohatch's post, i'd probably be fine with the 10.39:1 ratio...
anybody else?
