Alright so I've got a 1996 honda Civic CX completely stock, When I go out sometimes I like to screw around ((on the track)) Only problem is when Im screwing around I end up ******* up I need to know when to shift in gears wise ive looked for a CX shifting diagram but no luck yet when is redline on this car 7200?
Also does it have a rev limiter when it reaches this point? A few nights ago I was driving and noticed that my car was doing 60 in second gear Yes call me a retard I know I dont know where my mind was but yea any help would be apprieciated!

Get an LX cluster. It will have the correct redline on the tach. There's a limiter slightly past the redline.

If you dont have a tach, just run the car to the limiter in every gear, noting the mph. Then when you're driving hard, just shift right before that mph.

Or just get a tach. lol

If i get an LX cluster will it still be basically plug and play though?? Does a CX already have the wiring and everything going to the cluster for the tach?
edit: Second first was an automatic trep that some lady came around a blind turn whent into my lane and hit me head on...

Have no prob with you calling me a tard, I just got into the whole honda scene and manual for that matter. Im a noob I'll admit nothing to be ashamed with not knowing everything off the bat everyone has that prob..

I think he's calling you a retard..

at OP:
Ha, happend to me my 2nd or third race, the place where we startd was a clearing on the side of the road (it was in the corner on a bend) and it was dirt, I overspun my tires and pulled ahead, looked over my shoulder to see where he was, when I looked back I was HAMMERING the rev limiter & the wheels already caught :-P Oh well, **** happens...

Anyways..

I'd buy a tach or a guage cluster with a tach, either way, get a tach, then shift at like 4k daily driving or so... You have a limiter around 7400 maybe, 7200, somwhere around there, so u wont' dick slap the engine...but still running the engine that hards increases the chances of you throwing a rod really bad (the more RPM's you run ur engine, the more wear and tear on the engine it is)....so if you redline it everytime u drive, it might only last 1/3 as long opposed to if you shifted at 4k and only redlined it maybe once a day or once every 2 days....just an example though, but I think my point's illustrated, basically u won't blow the engine from revving it too hard once because there is a rev limiter, but if u keep hammering it up there in high RPM's close to the redline you're going to put so much wear & tear on the engine it won't be long before ur looking at a rod w/ the engine still together...

i think with the cx motor you shouldnt go past like 6200rpm. Atleast when i had my cx motor that thing wanted to die after 5500rpm.

If I remember correctly, your car's gears are similar to mine (VX) When I run it when I'm dicking around I shift around 5200. Anything higher and you're losing power. daily driven I just keep my steady speed so I'm around 2k...my car doesnt like chugging at 1500 or lower...i usually shift around 4k.

And my car will do 70 in second, at around 6k. my gears are long, think your's are too.

*edit haha sorry, I may be horribly wrong on my post...didnt notice the yr of your car til just now

You will get terrible gas mileage if you're in 2nd at 60. Shift to 5th.

His car has a Y7. It will make power after 5200.

Some mis information here on this thread.

First of all you would want to get a EX guage cluster or Si, CTR...etc not an LX lol...

CXs came with D16y7 motors with a stock redline of 7200 RPM and yes there is a rev limiter as long as the ECU wasnt modded or chipped in anyway.

y7s will make power to 5000-5500 RPM so shift at 6k?...
