Hone Cylinders?
i am just starting to build my ls/vtec and was asking around about honeing the cylinders, i have heard split opinions on honing aluminum blocks wondering if it is safe of will this creat blow by? Rebuilding with all new bearings and rings. If Honeing is safe does this have to be done or is it just recomended. Block had 60k from and automatic bottom end was pristine when pulled apart. Thanks

As far as honing on "aluminum" blocks goes, the B-series motors all have iron sleeves pressed into the aluminum block. It's the iron sleeves that need to be honed. If you had the factory service manual, you would know that Honda recomends a hone to renew the 60* cross hatch pattern every time you replace the rings. This is for proper break-in & sealing of the new rings. I have heard of people rebuilding motors without honing the cylinders and not experiencing any problems, but I have no personal experience with this...
