My friend bought a header for his '98 Civic, but he has an LX so the cat is on top, so we decided not to use it (loud and illegal). I know someone with a '94 EX (cat on bottom), but from item descriptions, this header won't fit. Anyone know why it won't fit? It's D16Z6 vs D16Y7/8, so I figured it would bolt up, but I don't know about the rest

 

I'm a little confused as to what you're asking, specifically.

Are you asking if a header designed for the 94 EX will fit on the 98 LX?

Also, keep in mind the y7 and y8 are different. y7 has the cat on the header runners, and y8 has it at the bottom/end.

 

Backwards. The header we have is for a 98 LX, but doesn't have room for the cat, so we didn't put it on. Since the cat on a 94 EX is on the bottom, will the header bolt up to a 94 EX?

 

To answer my own question, yes, it will fit
